    Cross country team finishes season
The Harrison County Fillies and Thorobreds Cross Country teams traveled to Burlington Saturday to compete in the AA Regional Meet.
The races were held in Idlewild Park on a course that Coach Deanna Lunsford deemed to be one of the more difficult that the squad had encountered this season.
“The weather was very, very cold,” noted Lunsford. “The course was difficult, but with all that being said the runners did an awesome job. This was a great finish to the season.”

  • Harrison County volleyball drops...

The Harrison County volleyball season came to an end Monday night as the Fillies lost to George Rogers Clark, 3-1, in regional play.
The loss marked the end of the volleyball career for the two Harrison County seniors, Amber Darnell and Haley Evans.
The Lady Cards defeated the Fillies, 2-1, in the regular season match on Sept. 16 and, despite some good play from Darnell and Sara Beth Sowder, the Fillies were no match for the Lady Cards on Monday night at Scott High.

  • Harrison wrestlers return strong...

Frank Sinatra sang the song “High Hopes” in 1959 but Old Blue Eyes didn’t have anything on Harrison County wrestling Coach Luke Tucker.
The veteran coach and his assistants have a returning group that includes 10 state qualifiers from 2013-14 and a couple of newcomers that could make the Thorobreds a regional contender in every weight class.
Last year the Thorobreds finished third in the region behind Johnson Central and Montgomery County.  The goal for the Breds is to pass these two and become region champs in 2014-15.

  • Campbell County eliminates...

Regional favorite and eventual 10th Region Champion Campbell County defeated the youthful Harrison County Fillies Wednesday evening.
The semi-final round of the tournament that was held in Winchester saw both Campbell County and Bishop Brossart advance over Harrison County and George Rogers Clark for an all 37th District final.
Campbell County then repeated as the 37th District winner by defeating Brossart 2-1 in the 10th Region finals.

  • Harrison County hosts annual...

The Harrison County High School and Middle School cross country teams were the hosts of the annual Harrison County Invitational Meet last Thursday.
The meet, which was held at the Cynthiana Country Club, featured teams from Pendleton County, Grant County, Lexington Christian, Owen County, Nicholas County and Bourbon County.
The Harrison County Middle school teams had enough runners to compete for the team trophies finishing third in the girls’ competition and second in the boys’.

  • Life is short, then you’re gone

St. Louis Cardinal outfielder Oscar Taveras’ death Sunday made me think about how quickly a person can go from upright to six feet under.
Here was a 22-year-young man with an extremely promising future and everything to live for losing his life in a car accident along with his 18-year-old girlfriend. What a shame.
This was a terrible accident but as callous as it sounds “accidents happen.”
