  • HCMS Colts struggle in games...

In the eight games played since last Thursday by the Harrison County Middle School teams only the sixth grade team has won and then only one time.
The youngest of the Colts lost a 32-27 game with McNabb on Thursday but came back to defeat Scott County Monday night, 31-30.
Then the Colts lost to Robertson County for the second time this year by a 20-13 score Tuesday night.
One of the positive things about the sixth grade games is the balanced scoring. In each game at least four players scored and most of the time more.

  • Thompson’s 33 points leads Breds...

Senior Trent Thompson scored 22 points in the first half and finished with a game high 33 to lead the Harrison County basketball Thorobreds to a 64-48 win over St. Patrick Tuesday night on the Hilltop.
The game was close throughout the first half with St. Patrick jumping out to as much as a five-point lead early before the Breds regained the lead at the end of the first quarter.
St. Patrick’s senior forward, Andrew Sticklen, scored 11 points in the opening period to put the Saints down only one point at 21-20 at the quarter’s end.

  • Wrestlers finish fifth in 12-...

Harrison County’s wrestling team, with varsity and middle school athletes, started the season with an impressive performance at Bryan Station Saturday.  The Thorobreds finished fifth in the 12-team meet.
Five of the returning veteran wrestlers were undefeated while newcomers Chase Blanton and Malcolm Walker were also standouts, according to Coach Luke Tucker.

  • Fillies roll over Scott County...

Coach Kim Furnish’s Harrison County Fillies rolled out to a big lead and cruised to an opening night win over the Scott County Lady Cardinals Monday on the Hilltop.
The Fillies led at the end of each quarter expanding the lead in each eight-minute segment except for the fourth quarter. The Harrison County girls tired a little and the Lady Cards edged a little closer in the final 62-49 game.
The second quarter was about two minutes old when the Fillies scored eight straight points to take a 13-to-12 advantage to 21-13.

  • A correction on bowling team and...

The hardest part first: My article on the bowling team last week had some errors and I need to do what I can about that.
First, Shelby Morris was the Fillies’ bowler on the All Tournament team and not the player that I mentioned.
I tried to do the article from a roster that a parent sent me and my memory, which was a mistake.
I do appreciate the roster, but my memory wasn’t good enough to be accurate about all of the players.

  • Eighth grade HCMS Colts remain...

The sixth, seventh and eight grade Harrison County Middle School Colts traveled to Winchester Monday to take on the new Robert D. Campbell School.
The results were quite different, however, as the sixth grade started slowly and was hopelessly out of the game early, the seventh grade hung around for a half before losing and the eighth grade team won.
The bus was some 30 minutes late arriving so the sixth grade Colts had little time to warm up and prepare, which was evident by their slow start.

Coaches Petey Reynolds, Dennis Hyatt and Frazier Fryman have two seniors on each the Thorobreds and Fillies bowling teams but that didn’t stop them from scheduling a tough season for their squads.  Hyatt and Fryman work mainly with the Fillies while Reynolds handles the Thorobreds.
