  • Middle school wrestlers win 2 of...

The Harrison County Middle School wrestlers have started the season with four multi-team meets taking first place in two of them.
The team is coached by Barry Zumwalt, Daniel Martin and James Simpson.
The first meet of the season was in late November at the Woodford County Invitational.  The Colts finished fifth in a 15-team meet to serve notice of better things to come.

  • Fillies lose two more home games...

The Harrison County Fillies continued their busy pre-holiday schedule by playing host to Trimble County on Monday, Dec. 22.
The night started well for Harrison County as the junior varsity led by sophomore Emma Darnell’s 13 points outclassed Trimble County 30-13.  This was the second win in a row for the junior varsity to improve to 2-4 for the season.
The Fillies could not maintain the momentum that the junior varsity began as they fell 47-38 to the Lady Raiders.

  • Breds enter Christmas with 5-5...

Harrison County’s Thorobreds split the last two games of the Mike Murphy Classic in Maysville beating Newport and losing to Scott High. This evened the season record to 5-5 as the Breds took a three-day break for Christmas.
The Newport game may have been the most exciting game of the year to date as senior forward Trenton Thompson’s free throw with nine seconds gave the Breds the win.
The game featured eight ties and 16 lead changes as neither team led by more than six points.

  • Christmas time again

Christmas is not my favorite time of the year, not because I don’t believe that it is Christ’s birthday, but for other reasons.
The commercialization of Christmas and the ridiculous buzz about not saying Merry Christmas because it may offend someone, makes me tired.
Personally, I think if one is so easily offended they need to join “Bubble Boy” somewhere in isolation.
However, I do like the sports on Christmas and during the Christmas holiday.

  • Harrison County wrestlers win...

Injuries and illness left the Harrison County Thorobreds short handed and weakened Saturday as they wrestled in the Rumble in the Hive.
The premier event, which is hosted by Louisville Central, featured some good teams from Jefferson and surrounding counties.
The Thorobreds faced powerful Meade County and came away with a 13-to-66 defeat.
In this dual match, the Breds had to forfeit in five weight classes, some that when everyone is healthy are the stronger weights for Harrison County.

    Eighth grade Colts improve record
The Harrison County Middle School Colts opened the game with a couple of different presses and raced out to a 23-0 lead as they defeated Elkhorn, 54-33, Thursday on the Hilltop.
“Everyone contributed tonight in some way,” praised Coach Glenn Lonaker. “We got scoring from 10 of the 13 players in the ball game.”
Lonaker still reminded the team that they still have some things to work on such as blocking out and moving the ball down the floor but overall he was pleased.
