  • A most heinous act

It wasn’t uncommon when I was a youngster for my mother to exclaim in angst, “What is this world coming to?!”
This could come after reading the paper, watching the news, or just after one of my brothers would do something that was unusually stupid. This exclamation is perfect though for what happened in Texas last week in a high school football game.

Thursday, the Villa Madonna Blue Lightning visited the Hilltop to do battle with Coach Bill Faulkner’s Fillies volleyball team.
Harrison County battled the 4-2 Villa Madonna girls to a three-set loss by close scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-20.  Danielle Dunaway had eight kills to lead the Fillies’ front line. Emma Gooden had 19 assists and, as usual, Casey Wallace was all over the floor with 28 digs.

On Wednesday night, the Harrison County Fillies matched up with district rival Pendleton County and came away with a 25-12, 25-17 straight set win.
It was a good night for the Fillies as the junior varsity also won 21-9, 21-10 and the freshmen won 21-18, 21-11.
The Fillies took the Lady Cats out of their game Wednesday with some sparkling defensive play, good play at the net and some fine ball handling.

  • Golf teams continue to play...

The Harrison County Thorobreds and Fillies stayed busy for another week playing some tough competition from around the area.
On Thursday, the Breds played host to Paris on the Cynthiana Country Club course and came away with a 184 to 202 win.
The top players for the Thorobreds took the night off but the younger players held their own against the Hounds.

  • Breds unable to top Jaguars...

    Mike Aldridge,
    Sports Writer

The first game of the Cumberland Valley Bowl was much like the second half of the game with East Jessamine to the Harrison County Thorobreds.
The Breds gained just one yard shy of 400 yards for the night and scored 35 points, but the defense could not contain North Laurel’s running game and gave up 449 yards in the 45-35 loss.

  • It’s all in the Cards as Breds...

    Mike Aldridge,

Mercer County won the match last Thursday, 8-1.  Harrison County won the contest to see how many penalty cards one team could receive, 9-2.
Two Harrison County players were dismissed with red cards which made them unable to play for the remainder of Thursday’s match and the next match which was Tuesday at home with Frankfort.
