  • NFHS makes rules clarifications...

    The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has released its Football Rules Book and Case Book for 2015.  
    Page two of the rule book is all the further one has to look to find the changes in rules for this year.  
    The points of emphasis are on page three so it doesn’t take much looking to find what the NFHS deems to be really important this season.
    There aren’t any actual rule changes but only comments and clarifications on current rules.  

  • Football Breds compete in two 7-...

    The Harrison County football Thorobreds are learning their new offense and defenses as they continue to play in seven-on-seven drills and lineman work against different teams.  
    On Wednesday, Fleming County, Bracken County and Paris visited the Hilltop to provide some mid-week competition.  
    The Breds, who have battled the Bracken County squad on two occasions already this summer, faced off with Fleming County and Paris on the practice field.  

  • 12-year-old Fillies finish second

    The 12-year-old traveling Fillies of Cynthiana finished in second place in the 2015 Scott County Softball Club state recreational tournament.   • Powell wins 46th Burley Belles...

    Cynthia Powell won her 14th Burley Belles title Friday and Saturday by edging Laurie Goodlett 152 to 154 in the 46th Annual Burley Belles Tournament.  
    The tournament, which is put on each year by the Ladies Golf Association of the Cynthiana Country Club, featured 64 golfers including 14 from Cynthiana.  
    Powell’s win puts her one tie away from the all-time leader Anne Combs who has 14 wins and one tie. Combs played in the tournament but finished 10 strokes behind the winner’s gross score.  

  • Football meets Bracken County in...

    Last Thursday and Friday, the Harrison County High School football team met with Bracken County for 7-on-7 and linemen work.  ‘
    On Thursday, the Breds traveled to Brooksville and Friday the Polar Bears paid a visit to the Hilltop.  
    On both occasions, the skill position players went 7-on-7 and the linemen competed in various strength and agility drills.  

  • Great Museum Treasure Hunt
  • Fillies soccer returns eight...

    As the second-year of Coach Kevin Gaunce’s tenure begins at the helm of the Fillies, he is looking with excitement for the start of the season.  
    “We have a solid group returning and I believe that we can challenge for the region title,” said Gaunce Saturday morning.  
    There are a few issues though, with the first replacing the seniors that were key parts on last year’s team.  
    Goal keeper Chelsea Ingram graduated, leaving open the spot that she had held for several seasons.  

  • Harrison High golf teams face...

    Coach Jason Crisp held tryouts last week for the 2015 Harrison County High School golf team but other than the middle school boys, there were few new faces.  
    The tryouts, held at the Cynthiana Country Club, welcomed six Fillies golfers and 11 Thorobreds on the hot days of Wednesday and Thursday.
    The Fillies will be led by returning number one player, junior Sarah Holland.  Holland was very competitive in most meets last year and worked very hard this off season to improve her game.  

  • Terry Jones, Anthony Hitch win...

    The weather was great for Saturday and Sunday morning, but the rains came and washed out the last nine holes of the 2015 Jungle Golf Tournament at the Cynthiana Country Club.  
    There was a three-way tie at the end of 27 holes and a scorecard playoff gave the win to Terry Jones and Anthony Hitch.   
    The identical score of 92 was also carded by the teams of Mike Wachter/Jon Hatfield and Anthony Shirley/Justin Steele.  

  • Burley Belles Tournament is this...

    The Cynthiana Country Club’s Ladies Golf Association will host the 46th Annual Burley Belles Tournament this Friday and Saturday.  
    Co-chairs Connie Whitaker and Layne McIlvain along with many of the LGA members have been hard at work getting the many details worked out to have a successful tournament.  
    Many of the host LGA members have entered to play in the flighted tournament.  
    Last year, Kay Cox posted the lowest net score in the championship flight and Kathy Grear was third lowest gross score in the second flight.
