The 420-plus youngsters that are playing in Cal Ripken, coach-pitch, t-ball or fast pitch softball are rounding third and heading for home for this season.
The year that began with a parade on April 27 is fast coming to a close.

  • Recreation parents, why we can...

I spent part of Monday afternoon with Barry Zumwalt, director of Harrison County/Cynthiana Parks and Recreation.  I went to get an update on the spring/summer baseball and softball and stayed to listen to some fantastic stories.
Barry wasn’t complaining, in fact, I started the train rolling by asking a question about something I had heard that went on in the Little League a time ago.

The Kentucky Stampede 12U girls’ softball team won the Sliding into Summer USSSA Qualifier Tournament this past weekend in Fairfield, Illinois.
“This was a very balanced Class C tournament as the teams were evenly matched,” said Coach Aubrey Dye.  “I am so proud of these girls, they played hard today.”

  • Old time fun with my brothers

I saw a picture the other day in a magazine that showed a forest scene with a creek running beside some green fields. The caption said something like yesterday’s iPad or something to that effect.
Afterwards, I was writing about the Cynthiana/Harrison County Baseball Hall of Fame those combined to make me nostalgic. I began to think about days long gone.  Some were more recent memories than others.
Jim Swinford spurred this on a little when he asked if I would be his presenter for his induction to the Hall of Fame.
