Mike Aldridge, Sports Writer hoosiers49@gmail.com Kennedy Sumpter, a sophomore at Harrison County High School, competed in the 2018 NASP/IBO World Outdoor 3D Challenge held on Aug. 9 in Snowshoe, West Virginia. Sumpter finished as the second overall female, shooting 290. For her efforts she won a trophy, plaque and a medal. This was only her sixth 3D tournament and her first time shooting outdoors. The Outdoor 3D World was the third leg of the “NASP 3 Star Challenge” where the scores shot at NASP Nationals and NASP World were combined with the NASP Outdoor 3D for the total score. Kennedy’s three tournament score was 870 which placed her second in the 3 Star Challenge. This awarded her a trophy, medal, plague and a $500 scholarship to be used at the college of her choice. NASP and IBO joined forces in 2014 to introduce more archers to additional shooting activities. Harrison County Coach Darren Collins spent several days in Snowshoe talking to and getting advice on how to bring Harrison County’s program to the next level with IBO President Bryan Marcum and NASP/IBO 3D Director Ryan Bass. The Harrison County coaching staff is working to find more ways to bring home awards, both team and individual, and to make our archers more visible to college coaches.
