    To the editor:
I am writing in response to Lee Kendall’s column last week. First of all, my blood relatives from decades ago probably came to Ellis Island to enter the United States. Personal information was gathered and a health check was done.
They came with the purpose of being hard-working, viable tax-paying citizens. Any person, regardless of age, sex or nationality that enters this country and stays without a green card or proper paperwork is trespassing.

It has certainly been an eye-opening experience being a part of this week’s special section that celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Cynthiana Democrat.
Becky, Robin and I sat down and went over several topics that we felt needed to be included in the section.
The broad topics were “in the beginning,” “then and now,” and “the good and the bad.”

In a seemingly hypocritical move, the United States has withdrawn from the United Nations Human Rights Council, with the US ambassador to the UN calling the organization a “protector of human rights abusers and a cesspool of political bias.”
Ambassador Nikki Haley said the withdrawal was not a retreat from the US’s commitment to human rights, but called the 47-member, international council “an organization that is not worthy of its name”.

    To the editor:
Recently there’s been some much needed change around town. It can be seen by  taking a stroll through downtown, whether it’s the beautiful murals, the  freshly painted businesses or the terrific new shops. With all of these great  changes, there’s still more to be done.

  • Wouldn’t it be nice if we could save our old buildings?

There it goes. Another old landmark in our town is down. The building I always called the Elks Building seemed an inevitable part of our town’s skyline, but now it is gone. Maybe the building wasn’t the finest example of architecture, but it had a set of formidable steps that once climbed to reach the dentist’s office.
