    To the editor:
I know we’re weary of politics and wish there weren’t all those ads on TV we have to mute. However, these next elections (mid-term and major) are far too important to ignore.
Our planet has been attacked by the present administration, women continue to struggle for a place at the table to make decisions concerning their own bodies, teachers and public service workers have been Shanghaied by our Legislature and on and on.

    To the editor:
Last month a very special little girl named Molly answered the need to “feed the hungry.”
The staff of the food pantry were in awe of the amount of food and monetary donations that was collected.
Thank you very, very much to all in our community who donated food or money. Also to Molly with the help of her family for caring for others.
    God bless you all!

I have fretted and stewed about the Harrison County School District’s “test scores” since they were released on Sept. 24.
Not because the scores are ‘bad,’ but because it is so difficult to try to decipher what those scores mean.
Kentucky is another one of those “transition years” of the testing cycle that we’ve all become accustomed to.

  • Supports Barr in November

    To the editor:
I am a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army and most importantly, a combat veteran.
Soon, the voters of Kentucky Sixth District must elect a member of Congress. The incumbent, Congressman Andy Barr is the obvious and best choice based on many factors.
First is his superb legislative record and support of numerous programs that benefit all of the sixth district but also the district’s veterans. And second is his character and lifestyle.

  • Too many ads on TV

    Over saturation

    To the editor:
Can we get rid of the political ads or at least put time limitations on them. If I see another Andy Barr or Amy McGraph commercial, I’m donna call Vladimir Putin myself and ask his Russians to mettle.
Thank God for DVR’s. I would much rather watch reruns of Scooby-Doo. I approve this message.

  • Advice for the Crape Myrtle grower...and more

Several folks have spoken to me about their Crape Myrtles this season. Some are not blooming at all, some bushes blooming just sporadically, and apparently none are as resplendent as usual.
    I agree.
My new healthy Crape Myrtles look as bedraggled as my older bush, and bless its heart, it is in full pout. You would think that the mild weather, and lots and lots of water would be beneficial. Well, we would all be wrong.
I scurried off to research land to find out the trouble, and there it is. Crape Myrtles like their feet to be dry between good drinks.
