Another Christmas has come and gone and Santa, again, made his rounds, which always jogs my memory of days gone by.
As I get older, it seems I spend a lot more time reminiscing. You know, thinking about how things were when you were younger...maybe the  time when you were the age your grandchildren are now.
This Christmas, Cal, my oldest grandchild at four years of age, received several trucks, some ‘guns’, some clothes and even a real-life video arcade from his second-cousin, my nephew, Jacob.

For the first time in 34 years Ernie and I will be alone on Christmas Eve.
This year is going to be a little different. My son, Seth, who lives in Florida, will not be coming home for Christmas.
Instead, he will be Christmassing with his girlfriend’s family and then coming to Kentucky in January for a friend’s wedding.
So, we are planning to put off Christmas giving, for the most part, until January. That gives me a couple  more weeks to procrastinate on my shopping.

This will be my last column before Christmas Day, so I will jump the gun a little bit, but want to devote this space to Jolly Old Saint Nicholas
I enjoyed taking pictures of all the little ones, and some not so little, who took advantage of the opportunities to sit on Santa’s lap and tell them whether they had been naughty or nice this past year, and what they really wanted for him to deliver to their homes on Christmas Eve.
The wonderment in their eyes at seeing Santa Claus, up close and personal, was something to behold.

  • Christmas... here again, and right on time

The holiday season seems to come in the front door just as we push the last of the hoses and garden tools to the garage. And here it is again, right on time. We have the turkey and fixin’s behind us and now it’s time to settle in for the long, festive Christmas season.

In just a few short weeks the news staff will be wrapping up 2017 with the top stories of the year.
When former WCYN Coffee Break host Rick Chasteen was on the air, he and I liked to compare notes for the top stories of the year. Generally, we were pretty close.
Admittedly, I had the upper hand because I had the entire year’s worth of Cynthiana Democrat’s to look back on. He had to do it by memory.
That year in review will be published the first week in January.

This holiday season, I am thankful for my community. Thankful for all the support that has been given to me this year, for all the support of the Cynthiana Main Street Program.
Our community is making a comeback and for that I am thankful!
There has been a sense of community this year.
Many events have been successful, many families have been downtown together. Our community has started many traditions.
