• What a fantastic summer it has been!

    June didn’t disappoint and July is sure to be just as great.  
    Last week, Cynthiana Main Street had the pleasure of participating in The Longest Day of Play. It was great seeing all those kids enjoying outdoor games and activities.  
    With the generosity of A-Action Pest Control, Cynthiana Main Street gave away 10 bicycles that evening.  The Longest Day of Play is definitely a great event in our community and the organizers do a fantastic job each year.

    In just a few short months, your Cynthiana Democrat will be celebrating its 150th year in print.
    Sesquicentennial, that’s the official word for 150 years.
    To go along with the year of celebration, there are a few things we are looking for.
    Who has had the longest, continuing subscription to the local newspaper? Who is the oldest subscriber?
    We have several faithfuls who come into the office on Wednesday afternoon just to get the news first.

    I suppose I should be counted among those who feel that the best government is that which governs the least.
    I am not, nor have I ever been, a proponent of having rules and regulations just for the sake of having rules and regulations.
    Citizens should have unfettered freedom to do what they want, as long as their actions do not infringe on any one else’s freedoms.
    The Cynthiana City Commission is faced with making a controversial decision concerning the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays.

  • Summer intern excited about time in Cynthiana

    Starting any kind of job or internship in a new place is always a nervous experience, but Cynthiana continues to calm me with its compassion and comfort.
    While nearing my graduation date at Eastern Kentucky University, I had the usual butterflies most graduates-to-be experience. My mind raced with troublesome thoughts, anxiety burning its tires through the race track of my mind.

    Cynthiana Main Street has a busy summer planned. We have so many great things happening in town, too many to mention them all.
    Cynthiana Main Street will be participating in the Longest Day of Play on June 21. This free event for kids will be one you won’t want to miss.
    Come on out to Flat Run Veterans Park at 6:30 p.m. Kids can enjoy games and be registered to win a bicycle. Cynthiana Main Street will be giving away four bikes. All you have to do is show up and play games.

    So far this summer, things have been quite busy in our little corner of the world.
    And, the promise is there to keep us active throughout the summer.
    I’ve said it before and just can’t say it enough ... our Chamber and Main Street directors are keeping it interesting.
    We are two concerts into the Summer Concert Series and I have to say those have been some of my favorite events.
     There are still two to go. On Friday, July 14, George Molton will perform in front of the Justice Center.
