  • No school Wednesday, Jan. 22

    There will be no classes in Harrison County, Wednesday, Jan. 22. Harrison County Assistant Superintendent David Case made the announcement about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

    Many county roads remain snow covered and temperatures are expected to drop to near 0 overnight.

    Case said school officials are hopeful that classes can resume on Thursday.

  • Former Cynthiana banker indicted on child porn charges

    A former Cynthiana banker has been indicted in eastern Kentucky on child porn charges.
    Edgar N. Purdom Jr., 68, was indicted by a Lawrence County grand jury on Jan. 10 on four counts  of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and one count of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, according to a press release from Attorney General Jack Conway’s office.
    Purdom turned himself in at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Monday afternoon.

    Traffic Cases
    Jan. 4 -- At 2:51 a.m., a non-injury accident occurred on US 62 West seven miles outside of downtown. Timothy Emberton of Lexington struck a guard rail and disabled an Enterprise Rental Car.
    Jan. 5 -- At 8:19 p.m., an injury accident occurred on KY 36 W 1.5 miles outside of town. Joshua Stanfield of Cynthiana was traveling east when a deer entered the roadway. In his attempt to avoid the deer, Stanfield struck its hindquarters and went over an embankment. The driver was transported to Harrison Memorial for treatment of injuries.

    Brett and Miranda Campbell of Georgetown, Ky., announce the birth of their daughter, Raeleigh Sue Campbell.
    She was born July 16, 2013 at Baptist Health, Lexington, and weighed 7 lbs. 5 oz.
    Maternal grandparents are Jeff and Debbie Beagle of Georgetown; maternal great-grandparents are Christine Coy and Bennie and Doris Beagle of Cynthiana.
    Paternal grandparents are Steve and Tammy Campbell of Lexington; paternal great-grandparents are Eugene and Frieda Campbell of Lexington.

  • Woman’s Club of Harrison County meets for January luncheon meeting

    The Woman’s Club of Harrison County met on Friday, Jan. 10 at the Hospice of the Bluegrass community room. Anna Ruth McLoney welcomed members and led in the Pledge of Allegiance.
    Layne Tussey catered the luncheon and prepared a meal of a hearty soup, assorted sandwiches and dessert. Cheryl Case offered the blessing of the meal.
