  • Portillo receives recognition at MCTC

    With dedication and hard work, Oscar Portillo graduated with an Associate in Arts degree and honors from Maysville Community and Technical College Licking Valley Campus.
    Portillo began his educational journey with a decision to get his GED in 2010 to further his opportunities.  Next, Portillo determined that it would work for him to attend the MCTC/Paris extension to work on his certificate in general business and AA degree.

    A severe thunderstorm with wind gusts estimated at over 60 miles-per-hour lingered over Harrison County early Monday night, tearing down large tree limbs and damaging the roof lines of at least one Cynthiana business as well as a city utility building.

    Arianna Lana Doyle was born to Paige Doyle of Cynthiana on June 11, 2014 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 6 lbs.
    Maternal grandparents are Gary and Sherry Doyle of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Ray and Pat Stevens, Lois Stevens, Hobert Doyle, and Piero and Shirley Coie.

  • Paris Pumpkin Festival planned for September

    The annual Pumpkin Festival will be held at Legion Park Sept. 27-28. This popular event will start on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and run until 7 p.m. and reopen on Sunday at 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Plans are to have more live entertainment this year, local art and crafts, food and fun for the whole family.  
    Vendors are encouraged to sign up early and set up will be on Friday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. until dark. Deadline to sign up is Sept. 10. For booth prices and sizes, contact Ken or Janet Bruenig at 895-987-9765 or jkbreunig@copper.net.

    The Cynthiana High School Class of 1954 will hold their 60th year reunion on Saturday, June 28 at The Prizing House, 329 S. Church St. Social hour will be from 5-6 p.m. with a buffet dinner beginning at 6 p.m.
