    I have a decent harvest of potatoes this year, most of them are clean as a whistle; a few have a tinge of green (because a little sun shone down on them when they were curing on the veranda of the barn … my fault); and best of all, none have the tiny holes left by the dreaded wireworm.

  • Reception planned for retiring police officer

    The family of Cpl. Walter Tapp will host a retirement reception for the 25-year Cynthiana Police officer on Sunday, Oct. 19, 3-5 p.m., at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office meeting room.
    Tapp retired on Sept. 30. The reception is hosted by the family and open to the public.

  • School officials give nod to increased security measures at all public schools

    In a special called meeting Thursday night, The Harrison County School Board approved bids for the installation of security upgrades in all Harrison County Schools. The upgrades include bullet proof glass, sealed storefront enclosures and more security cameras, particularly around access doors and hallways.
    The bid for construction packages, door hardware and camera installation went to Schiller Hardware for a total of $81,379. The storefront and transaction windows will be provided by Consolidated Glazing Contractors for $29,480.

  • Registered nursing pre-admission begins next week at the Licking Valley Campus of MCTC

    The Licking Valley Campus of Maysville Community and Technical College announces the pre-admission conference dates for students beginning the registered nursing program for the fall 2015.
    They are Oct. 22 from 2 to 3 p.m., Nov. 4 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Nov. 26 from 2 to 3 p.m., Jan. 21 from 2 to 3 p.m., Feb. 6 from 2 to 3 p.m., and Feb. 25 from 2 to 3 p.m.
