  • Feathered and furry pests in the garden

    I like all animals. I like that I live in the country and get to see all kinds of creatures, but when they get my blueberries before me or when they open the birdseed can in the middle of the night or when they dig up flower pots or nibble off the tops of perennials or...well, you surely understand. 
    This year our barn has hosted a young squirrel family. I have grown found of the baby squirrels as I watched them navigate their new surroundings. 

  • Woman’s Club of Harrison Co. meets for May luncheon

    The Woman’s Club of Harrison County met Friday, May 11 at Bluegrass Care Navigators for their monthly luncheon. President Virgie Wells welcomed members, guests and led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
    The meal was catered by Layne Tussey and included fruit salad, ham, potato casserole, creamed lima beans, roll and for dessert apple pie with ice cream and caramel sauce.

  • Cynthiana NSDAR holds May meeting at Blue Licks State Park

    The Cynthiana Chapter NSDAR met at the Blue Licks State Park at 11:30 a.m. on May 19 for lunch, chapter meeting, and tour of the museum.
    Regent Jane Whitehead called the meeting to order. The DAR Ritual, The Pledge of Allegiance, the Daughter’s Pledge, The American’s Creed, and the Preamble were recited, followed by singing of The Star Spangled Banner.
    Mildred Hehr read the National Defense Message; Gail Kesterson read the President General’s Message; Sandy Craddock spoke on the Conservation Minute; and Whitehead read the American Indian Minute.

    The Hatfield and Workman family reunion will be held Saturday, June 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the front shelter at Flat Run Veterans Park on Oddville Avenue.

    NORTHCUTT
    The Northcutt reunion will take place Saturday, June 2 at Kincaid Lake State Park at 12:30 p.m. at Shelter #2.
