  • There is plenty to do this summer in Harrison County

    Is summer really on its way?
    For the sake of not jinxing the county back into another cold spell... maybe I won’t say it out loud, but I do believe that warm weather is in our near future.
    So what does that mean?
    It means a lot for many Harrison County families if you think about it.
    Baseball is now underway, so many families will be gathering nearly every weekend to watch their children and grandchildren make memories at River Road Park.

  • There is something about that name

    Thanks to the miracle of my DVR, I just finished watching “The Bible” miniseries that ran on the History Channel for several weeks before Easter.
    I wasn’t sure how I’d like it — I was afraid it would be filled with rewritten theological untruths. But it stayed true to the biblical text.
    I especially loved the angels. No wimpy, girly-men with white dresses and wings. These were big, tough, Ninja warriors who took armies of the enemies of God’s people and crushed them.
    Hooray, God!

  • Commission asks for IRS meeting


    A United States Federal Revenue officer is scheduled to meet with members of the Commission on Aging in order to discuss unpaid federal income tax that with penalties and interest has rung up a $60,000 bill.

  • Boy Scout Camp burns Tuesday

    The Harrison County Boy Scout Camp on County Infirmary Lane burned to the ground Tuesday night.

    Harrison County Sheriff Bruce Hampton said the call to dispatch was  made around 10 p.m.

  • Chief Carson dies Monday

    After serving 31 years as Harrison County Fire Chief, Charles Carson, Jr. passed away Monday, April 29, from cancer.

    Carson, 70, spent over 50 years as a firefighter for both the Berry area and Harrison County Volunteer Fire Department.

    Harrison County’s new assistant superintendent of schools is really not new to the district at all.

    For the last 28 years, David Case has served Harrison County schools in some capacity.
