  • Tomatoes looking good but no fruit for the 4th

    I had picked loads of cherry tomatoes by this time last year.  
    The hot spring worked to the advantage of ripening tomatoes by the 4th of July.  
    This year has played out a little differently but the tomatoes don’t seem to mind; they look great, have generous fruit set and will be ripening soon enough.

    Births announced this week are: Anna Brooke Garrison, Jan. 2, daughter of James and Kyra Garrison; Caden Christopher Maners, May 21, son of Chris and Toni Rae Maners; Carter Nathaniel Wiglesworth, June 13, son of Heather Wiglesworth; Margaret Abbigail Maryea, May 23, daughter of Herman and Beth Maryea; Bailey Grace Young, June 14, daughter of John and Christi Young.
    New Lair Road will be getting a turning lane onto Webster Avenue. It was hoped to be done before school starts but replacement of utility poles has delayed construction.

  • Duncans celebrate 25th anniversary

    Gary and Teresa Duncan have shared 25 years of marriage together and celebrated this milestone with their children, Logan and Hannah.
    A larger celebration is being planned with family and friends for later this year.
    The couple was married on May 28, 1988 at Cynthiana Christian Church. They reside in Harrison County with their two children.

    The Henry N. and LuMara Fryman family reunion will be held July 21 at Unity Christian Church on Hwy. 36 W. Cynthiana, Ky. Descendants include families of Edward and Nettie Fryman, Ottis and Minnie Fryman, Florence and Dove Wagner, Ada and Wilford Wagner, Clara and Orie Florence, Ida Jane and James Snapp.
    A potluck lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Cutlery will be provided. Bring drinks. Come and enjoy family, fellowship and good food.


  • harriCyn Community Theatre seeking directors, plays for 2014 season

    The harriCYN Community Theatre is now seeking directors and plays for its upcoming 2014 season. If you are a director and would like to direct a play in our community,  submit a detailed proposal to direct to the harriCYN Community Theatre by emailing harricyn@yahoo.com.
    Include in your proposal the name of the play or plays that you are recommending for consideration. If you are a new director to the organization, include a brief bio of your experience directing.  Proposals are due by Aug 15, 2013. For more information or details, email harricyn@yahoo.com.

  • Robinson-Smith to marry Aug. 24

    KaTrina Robinson, Georgetown, Ky., daughter of George and Geneva Robinson, and Terry Smith, Georgetown, son of Terry Gilkey of Versailles, Ky. and Lisa Glenn of Cynthiana, Ky., announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
    The wedding will take place Aug. 24, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. at Great Crossing Baptist Church, Georgetown, with Terry Gilkey officiating the ceremony.

    * Log Cabin, May 13, 1905 -- “The young men of the Twentieth Century Euchre Club will give a euchre party at St. Edwards Hall next Tuesday night, this being the last of the season.”
    * Cynthiana Democrat, April 12, 1951 -- “George Smith, believed to be the oldest resident of Northern Kentucky, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Covington, at the age of 102. A native of Cynthiana and a resident of Covington for many years, Smith was born in slavery in 1849. He was freed by the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.”

  • Currans to be honored with birthday celebration

    The family of Anna Mae Currans will host a special birthday celebration in her honor on July 14 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at Cynthiana Christian Church.
    The public is invited to come share in the celebration with cards, pictures and memories. No gifts please.

  • Wade-Cooper announce engagement

    Rick and Debbie Wade of Versailles announce the engagement of their daughter, Taylor Elizabeth, to Chase Allen Cooper of Versailles, son of Buck and Lori Cooper of Lexington and Tammy McClain of Nicholasville.
    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Frances Simms of Cynthiana and the late Bob Simms and Dick and Janet Wade of Versailles.
    The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of Linda and Jerry Casey of Versailles.
    The wedding will take place in July.
