  • I have been using purslane in salads and soups for several years now, so when we came home from vacation to a robust crop of it in the path, I could not help but harvest it all.
When high summer arrives, purslane really kicks in because it loves the heat. I no longer consider purslane a noxious weed, but regard it for its culinary virtue.
In fact, culinary magazines and even the New York Times food editor is giving a nod to the tasty weed, or should we say herb?

  • By Don Powell, Gideons

I stopped for gas one evening and as I started pumping my gas, I was approached by a young man who asked if I could give him a dollar.
By the clothes he was wearing, I immediately assumed he was needing the money to buy drugs or alcohol. I told him I didn’t have any money and went back to pumping my gas. He walked away from me and sat on the edge of the sidewalk in front of the service station.
