• Lucas hosts May Omega chapter meeting, new officers installed

    The May meeting of Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Rosemary Lucas,  with members answering the question “what sorority event do you most look forward to?”
    Replies ranged from attending Keeneland, Christmas celebration, Honors Night, revealing night, and monthly sister breakfast.

    Christopher Jase Best was born to Erin Elizabeth Smart and Christopher Lee Best of Cynthiana on May 3, 2016 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    He weighed 5 lbs. 10 oz., and is welcomed by his sister Brelynn Ane Best.
    Maternal grandparents are Kristie and Donnie Smart of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Ruth Ann Brierly and Larry Garrison.
    Paternal grandparents are Brenda Craycraft and Jimmy Best of Paris, Ky.; paternal great-grandparents are Rose Purcell and Betty Clem.

  • Beta Sigma Phi celebrates Honor’s Night

    On Monday, April 25, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority held its annual Honor’s Night/Founder’s Day celebration. This year’s celebration was held at the newly renovated Cheers Banquet Hall on Ky Hwy. 32 W.
    The 2015-2016 Beta Sigma theme, Forever Friends, was evident watching this group of ladies mingle and have fun together as they celebrated each other.

    Alex Barnett carries most total votes in district judge race, defeating Dean Peak. Barnett will face Republican Rick Chasteen in the November general election.
    Harrison County High School graduation is May 26.

    The Cynthiana High School is celebrating its 144th anniversary of the establishment of the school. The banquet will be held on Saturday, June 25 at the Harrison County Extension Office.
    Tickets are $20 and are available at Biancke’s, Ewalt’s Jewelry, Farmer’s Deposit Bank on US 27 South and the Cynthiana-Harrison County Museum. Limited tickets available at the door for $25.
    The banquet social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner following. The meal will be catered by B & B Catering of Cynthiana.

  • Woman’s Club meets for May luncheon

    The Woman’s Club of Harrison County met on Friday, May 13 at Hospice of the Bluegrass for their monthly luncheon and business meeting. Cheryl Case, president, was unable to attend and in her absence, Virgie Wells, first vice president, presided over the luncheon.  Wells welcomed members and guests and led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
    The luncheon was catered by Layne Tussey. The meal included pasta salad, fresh fruit, chicken salad, country ham sandwiches and a choice of carrot or lemon cake. Sue Burrier offered the blessing of the meal.

     Sarah Alyse Wilson, daughter of George and Sonia Frazier of Cynthiana, and Mike and Monica Wilson of Georgetown, was married to Raleigh Joseph Spinks IV, son of Joe and Betsy Spinks of Pee Wee Valley, on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Crestwood United Methodist Church by Pastor Keith Switzer.
    The bride is pursuing a career in Dental Hygiene and the groom is an Accountant. They will reside in Louisville, Ky.

    Camila  Rose Chavarrias was born to Kayla Warth and Jose Chavarrias Tovar of Cynthiana on March 16, 2016 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 5 oz., and is welcomed by her brother Saul Joseph.
    Maternal grandparents are Mary Stamper and Billy Warth II of Cynthiana.
    Paternal grandparents are Leonides Chavarrias Gonzales and Felicitas Tovar Ramirez of Quesetaro, Mexico.
