Every time I mention that I haven’t seen a flying pig in a while, that’s when I do.
FYI: In my world, a flying pig is something I want to see happen but have zero faith that it will. In other words, it will happen “when pigs fly.”
Also in my world, whenever I am deep in the pit of doubt, that’s when I start getting flying pig sightings, whether it’s a line in a book or TV show or an image of a flying pig in a commercial or ad in a magazine.
Just in the past few days:

  • Your effectiveness as a Christian is linked to your confidence

If you have been following the Kentucky Men’s Basketball team this year you have no doubt heard the broadcaster at some point this season talk about confidence. For example, I believe I heard a thousand times that particular players weren’t playing with confidence.
If one loses their confidence, they are not as effective as they could be.
As this is true in sports and in any number of areas in life, it is true in the Christian life. Your effectiveness as a Christian will be linked to your confidence.

  • Do not fear walking with God

I was sleeping soundly, all wrapped up in my sleeping bag, in my tent, miles into the back-country of Minnesota. I had canoed all day so I was tired, which helped me fall asleep quickly.
Suddenly, a loud crack of a tree trunk nearby followed by a growl woke me from my slumber. As my friend Billy and I tried to unwrap ourselves from our sleeping bag cocoons, we heard shouts from outside yelling “Bear!  Bear!”

Whenever my husband starts a sentence with, “Before you say no, hear me out,” I know I’m headed for a heart attack or two.
It’s usually about an idea he has for a change around the house, from knocking down a wall to rearranging the furniture.
No matter what the change is, I immediately hate the idea only because I hate change of any kind.
I’ve had the same hairstyle for 30 years, the same job since 1992, the same husband since 1975. The furniture in my house hasn’t changed since we moved in 16 years ago.

  • May the ‘Force’ be with you!

    Be a Jedi Christian!
We must be prepared — we must be equipped, armed. Every day we wrestle against “The Empire” — Satan and his Imperial Forces.
But we need not fear! The “Force” (Jesus) not only is close to us, He is here to help us. All we need do is call on Him.
There are parallels between Jedi warriors and Christians.

A number of years ago a woman called me at work, wanting to tell me her story.
She wanted to tell someone who would believe her and not laugh, someone who believes that God can and does do strange and wonderful, impossibly improbable things.
She had heard that I believe that God makes pigs fly.
That I do, although I haven’t seen any in a very long time, but I’m praying that I will.
