Administrators top list of highest paid

By Becky Barnes

Nearly 10 percent of the Harrison County School District’s $16.8 million salary budget was paid to its top 20 staffers in 2010-11, most of whom are administrators.

The superintendent and assistant superintendent are again the top paid employees within the district. Andy Dotson earned $112,540.08 last fiscal year as superintendent compared to $111,269.04 the previous year.

Assistant superintendent Dee Gee Fischer took a $10,000 cut from $109,083.50 in 2009-10 to $99,119.16 in 2010-11. However, she maintained her second highest paid status.

State law requires the school system to provide a copy of its salaries to the newspaper in August of each year. However, the decision to publish the salaries remains with the newspaper. The Cynthiana Democrat publishes the salaries as a public service announcement. The entire list of salaries can be seen on page 14 of this week's Democrat or in the PDF file attached to the bottom of this story.

Harrison County’s director of facilities and assessments David Case earned $92,517.12 in 2010-11 compared to $91,499.04 the previous year.

Cindy Hill, who retired this year as supervisor of elementary instruction, received $90,711.61.

Melissa Shepard, who is the schools’ information/tech officers, also took a cut in pay in 2011. She earned $90,366.71, which is $1,659.13 less than the previous year.

Jenny Lynn Varner Hatter, supervisor of secondary school instruction, earned $86,995.92 in 2011, which is an increase of $991.20 from last year.

Rounding out the top 20 are:
