  • Second alumni game to be at...

    Gridiron Alumni is once again holding an alumni battle between Harrison County and Bourbon County.  
    Last year’s game, held at Bourbon County’s new field, drew a nice crowd and was a very well played game.  
    The first annual game was won by the Harrison County Alumni, 24-16.

  • Fillies use three home runs to...

    The Harrison County Fillies put together 19 hits including three home runs, a triple and a double en route to a 15-3 win over Bracken County Thursday in Brooksville.
    The game began with a four-run first inning for the Fillies as, after a Morgan Grose walk and a single by Morgan Florence, Ashley Coppage blasted a three-run home run to give the visiting Harrison County girls a 3-0 lead.  
    After a couple of line outs to short, Shelby Ishmael singled, advanced on a walk to Courtney Newsome and then scored the fourth run on a single by Haley Powers.

  • Great week for Louisville,...

    The University of Louisville and its fans had a huge weekend of basketball with the two teams, men’s and women’s, advancing in the NCAA tournament.  
    It would have been perfect except for the injury to Kevin Ware, which was as bad an injury seen on live television since the Joe Theisman break on Monday Night Football.  
    The gruesomeness of Ware’s broken leg put a damper on the game for a while but as it is in life the show had to go on and it did with the Cardinals coming out on top in a big way.

    HCHS blog ready for football season
    In order to keep the players, parents and fans better informed about what is going on in the football program, Harrison County High School has established an HCHS Football Sports Blog.
    The procedure to use when getting on to the blog is:
    Log onto www.harrison.kyschools.us/hchs/sports/athletics.htm; click on Harrison County Sports Blog.  Click on “Football” under the categories heading on the left hand side of page.
    Coach Jim Carr promises to update at least on a weekly basis.

  • Breds stay perfect with two...

    The Harrison County baseball Breds won two games last week as the weather continued to put a damper on the season.  
    Harrison County shutout Montgomery County 2-0 on Friday and then came back on Saturday to win an extra-inning game at Lewis County 2-1.  
    The Owen County game scheduled for Monday, the Bellevue game scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday’s game with Mason County will all have to be rescheduled if they are to be played as the weather was just too lousy to play the games.

  • Wind, cold and competition make...

    Saturday’s Wolverine Open was the epitome of an all comers track meet because the good ones all came to run in it.  
    Well, maybe not all of the good ones, but a good enough representation that Coaches Danny Simpson and Robert Walker said the competition was like the state meet.  
    “The 16-team field was as large and as tough as the state meet,” said Simpson. “We were able to get more athletes involved today, and it was a good experience for them.”

  • Fillies begin year with three...

    The Harrison County Fillies, sporting a preseason state ranking of  No. 25, began the season last week with three victories over familiar opponents.  
    Tuesday night Harrison County used a four-run second-inning, and a three-run fifth to put the game away against the Lady Braves of Grant County.  
    Grant County (0-3) scored in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Harrison County tied it in the bottom half at 1-1.

  • It is too cold in Minnesota...

    I have the greatest respect for 3M and what that company means to Cynthiana.  
    With that stated, what in the heck is wrong with the University of Minnesota?  
    Quick, name me one basketball player that played there.   Couldn’t do it could you?  
    The best known basketball player from the Minneapolis school other than Kevin McHale is probably Dave Winfield and he played pro baseball.
