On Sunday, the girls’ coaches of the 10th Region released the pre-season top 10 players and the top 10 teams as they see them to begin the season.
Harrison County did not fare well in either poll.
The team rankings were a little surprising as defending 10th-Region champ Campbell County was picked fourth by the coaches.

    Golfers honored at banquet
Coach Jason Crisp and the Harrison County High School golf boosters held the annual golf awards banquet Monday, Oct. 7, at the Cynthiana Country Club. The players and guests feasted on steak sandwiches, potatoes and salad before the awards were presented.
The Fillies award winners were: Morgan Hollar for most-improved player and the most birdies; Sarah Holland for best match scoring average; and Kenzie Jones for the best tour scoring average.

  • Finally basketball

The lull between high school football’s end and high school basketball’s start is almost unbearable.
The only Harrison Countians playing football now are Joseph and Bob Ammerman officiating and Jim McKee coaching. One has to be at the right place at the right time for that.
I cannot get excited about college basketball yet since, for the most part, the big name teams are playing not-so-good competition and blowing them out. It is so long until a game really matters.

  • Breds lose first round playoff...

If Coach Neil Furnish knew that he would have three receivers with over 100 yards and a total of 490 yards for the game, he probably would have been pleased.
That is just what the Thorobreds managed Friday night against the Greenup County Musketeers but, to no avail, in the 57-28 loss in the first round of the 2016 playoffs.
Coach Furnish was not pleased.  More later on that.

  • Youthful Breds look to improve...

Coach Larry Kendall has, at most, three seniors to begin the 2016-17 season, and two of them just finished football.
Kendall does have three players back who started a lot of games and one other who played quite a bit but only two of them are seniors.

Harrison County High School’s only volleyball coach, Dr. Bill Faulkner, has been selected for induction into the 10th Region Volleyball Hall of Fame.
Faulkner started the Harrison County program in 2001 and just finished his 16th season.  His career record is 374-183.  The Fillies have won 12 district titles and have made it to the Tenth Region semi-finals eight times under his tenure.
