  • Breds upset Wildcats in thriller...

    The host Harrison County Thorobreds put their disappointing season record behind them and played an inspired 32 minutes of basketball upsetting favored Pendleton County 63-55 in the first round of the 38th District Tournament Monday night.  
    The Wildcats were considered the team to beat by most in the district but Harrison County used a balanced attack and some good defense to advance to the 38th District title game, Friday night at 7 p.m.

    The Harrison County Fillies built a big lead and coasted to a 68-59 win, Friday night in Mt. Sterling, defeating Montgomery County.  The Harrison County Thorobreds were out scored nine to four at the end of the first half and never threatened after that in a 62-46 loss to the Indians, in the second game of the girl/boy doubleheader..  

  • Mr. and Mrs. Basketball; Who...

    I received my ballot last week to vote for Mr. and Miss Basketball for 2016-17.  
    The nominations for the cherished positions consist of the player or co-player of the year in each region for girls and boys.  
    Twenty boys and 18 girls are still in the running for the Mr. and Miss Basketball and ballots will be accepted until Friday, Feb. 24.  
    The winners will be announced on March 14 during a ceremony at the Lexington Center prior to the Sweet Sixteen.

    The Harrison County track team, with only six participants, had a good day Saturday at the Mason County indoor track facility.  
    The Fillies finished 15th scoring eight points and the Thorobreds were tied for 19th in the boys’ competition.  Teams came from Ohio, Tennessee and Kentucky to compete in the Mason County meet.

  • Track team has success at Mason...

    The Harrison County track team participated in an All-Comers Meet, Saturday, Feb. 11, at Mason County’s indoor track facility.  
    Coach Danny Simpson took some Fillies runners and field event participants as well as Jon Phillips of the Thorobreds team.  
    Simpson noted that due to the mild winter more teams are prepared and are participating in indoor track this season.
