  • Another favorite gone

I had hoped to write about making plans to go to Owensboro or to Whitaker Bank Park in the coming week for my column this week.  But no such luck.  Both the Fillies and Thorobreds had a good season but one that could have been great if things had gone better.  But in the words of the ever hopeful fan; “We will get them next year.”
Falling right into my disappointment in the end of the softball and baseball seasons came the word of the death of Muhammad Ali.

    Fillies players honored
Harrison County Fillies pitching ace, Jami Davis, has been named the 10th Region Player of the Year by the 10th Region coaches. The senior hurler finished her senior year Friday in the region final with George Rogers Clark. She will attend Olney Central Community College in the fall to continue her softball career.  She is the daughter of April and Jimbo Davis.
Davis and fellow senior, Macy Martin, will participate in the East/West All Star game, which will be played at Georgetown College the weekend of June 18.

The Harrison County Fillies seemed poised to head to the state tournament on Jack Fisher Field in Owensboro for the first time since 1995 after blanking Montgomery County 10-0 in the 10th Region semi finals Wednesday.  However, the old nemesis, George Rogers Clark, broke the hearts of the Fillies players, coaches and fans with a 6-0 win on Friday to advance to Owensboro in the region final.

The Harrison County Thorobreds saw their baseball season come to an end last Wednesday as they fell to Scott High, 2-0, in Bourbon County in the 10th Region semi-finals.
The Eagles won the contest despite connecting for only two base hits. In contrast, Harrison County picked up six hits but did not score.
C.J. Claypool started for the Breds on the mound and got through the first two innings allowing only one base runner when he walked Andrew Trame in the first.

  • Fillies roll into region semi’s...

The pattern established late in the season of scoring early worked well again for the Harrison County Fillies Monday as they defeated Campbell County, 10-0, in the second game of the 10th Region tournament.
The Fillies scored five times in the first inning to put the Lady Camels away for all practical purposes.
The fact that Harrison County starting pitcher Jami Davis allowed only one hit in the six inning affair made the five early runs that much bigger.
