Today's Sports

  • One season nearly complete

    The seasons for the multitude of sports that are going on now are hitting on different stages.  
    Archery is in sort of a rest, relax and practice stage until the meets begin again on January 14.  
    After that there are meets each weekend preparing for the region and state meets as well as the Nationals in March or April.  
    Wrestling is still facing almost every tough competitor possible in order to prepare for the Region 8 tournament and the state competition in late February.

    The Harrison County Thorobreds lost to Bracken County and Mason County in the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic played Thursday and Friday in the Field House at Mason County.  The two losses drop the season record for Harrison County to 1-8.
    The losses were different as the Breds led on Thursday against Bracken County at the half but never led versus the Royals on Friday.

    The Gladiator Meet at Fern Creek Thursday and Friday featured one day of duals and one day of individual wrestling.  
    All of this was done with an extremely tough field from three states, with Indiana and West Virginia teams joining many of the better teams of the Commonwealth.  
    The meet was won by Woodford County with 445.5 points followed by the F.J.  Reitz Panthers of Evansville, Indiana with 408.5 and Spring Valley, West Virginia with 337.5 points.

    The Harrison County Fillies fell to 3-7 for the season as they lost to Estill County (6-2) 56-41 at West Jessamine, on Tuesday.  
    Three-pointers were the difference as the Lady Engineers sank eight of 18 attempts from behind the arc.  
    The Fillies scored first on a basket by senior Emma Darnell and battled the Lady Engineers evenly through the first eight minutes, trailing 10-8 at the first quarter stop.

  • Breds win over Grant County with...

    On Friday night, the winless Harrison County Thorobreds invaded Dry Ridge to take on the Grant County Braves.  
    The Braves were sporting a spotless record on their home court going into the Friday night encounter.  It looked as if the Breds would head home with another loss when they found themselves trailing by 17 points late in the third quarter.  

  • Fillies stop four game slide...

    The Harrison County Fillies snapped a four game losing streak Wednesday night as they edged the Paris Lady Hounds 44-42 on the Hilltop.  
    The game was close the entire night as both teams made little runs and then withstood the same from the opposition.  

  • HCMS volleyball 8th grade...

    The Harrison County Middle School finished the 2016 part of their volleyball schedule with matches Thursday at Elkhorn and a home match Monday with Woodford County.  
    The sixth grade team defeated Elkhorn in both sets 15-7 and 17-15 and split with Woodford County 21-14 and 20-22 to bring their season record to 3-3-3.  The sixth grade plays two sets so there are ties.
