  • Breds break out of slump, beat...

    After the losses at the Doc Morris Invitational, the Harrison County Thorobreds found themselves in a three-game tailspin.
    But let old rival Bourbon County take the field and it is another story as it was Monday in Paris when the Breds handed the Colonels a 7-4 defeat in an exciting ball game.  
    Catcher Robbie Stroub started the game off the way it is supposed to be done with a single.  
    Noah Mitchell walked followed by singles by John King and Jordan Martin and it was 1-0 in favor of the Breds.

  • HCHS track teams have strong...

    The Harrison County High school track teams hosted a weather-shortened meet on Tuesday last week and participated in a 12-team meet in Mt. Sterling on Saturday doing very well in both.
    The lightning, storm-shortened meet on Tuesday at the athletic complex featured eight teams including the Harrison County squads.  
    The Thorobreds were the winners of the boys’ meet defeating Scott County, Holmes, Bourbon County, Paris, Nicholas County, Grant County and Calvary Christian.

  • What to do about security at...

    Safety has long been a concern of mine in large crowds, which would include athletic events, concerts, etc.
    My original concerns began way back after the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire and the deaths associated with that disaster.  
    Patti and I had been there to see The Lettermen, yes, the Lettermen, not long before the fire and were actually discussing going back that very day with Tony and Mary Beth Peddicord, who lived above us at one time on Pleasant Street.

  • Breds defeat Nicholas County,...

    A one-out single by Robbie Stroub, a sacrifice by Noah Mitchell and an RBI single by John King pushed the Harrison County Thorobreds to an exciting 7-6 win over district rival Nicholas County Tuesday night on the Hilltop.  
    The Breds had posted a 4-0 lead after four innings and appeared to be on the way to an easy triumph until Nicholas County picked up three runs in the top of the fifth inning.  
    A walk, two singles and a double plus a couple of wild pitches accounted for the Nicholas County runs in the inning.

    Pitch, hit and run competition
    to be held this Friday
    The local competition for pitch, hit, and run will be held this Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at River Road Park.  This competition is sponsored nationally by Scotts and locally by Cynthiana-Harrison County Parks and Recreation.
    This free competition is for all boys and girls ages 7 to 14 (age as of July 17, 2013). The winners will advance to the sectional competition that will be held in Union, Ky.

  • Breds improve to 9-1 defeating...

    There wasn’t anything easy about the Harrison County Thorobreds’ ninth victory of the season Monday night, but a win is a win.  
    The Bracken County Polar Bears rolled onto the Hilltop and gave the Thorobreds a battle before falling 7-5 in a game that was close throughout.  
    Bracken County got on the board in the first inning off Harrison County starter junior Christian Persinger.  
    The Polar Bears struck for three straight singles and a walk scoring a run though Persinger struck out the side.
