  • Harrison Co. hosts Cross Country...

“Sometimes hosting a cross country meet is like homecoming,” said Coach Danny Simpson.  “Athletes are excited to be running at home and they lose focus. I give our teams credit, they helped run the meet, but they gave great efforts in their races.”

  • One more baseball memory and...

This year’s World Series features two teams who seemingly are not often in the Fall Classic.

  • Fillies fall in volleyball semi’...

The Harrison County volleyball Fillies fell in straight sets Wednesday night to the Ft. Thomas Highlands Bluebirds to end their season.

The Fillies complete the year with an outstanding 25-12 record, winning the district and advancing to the semi finals of the 10th Region.

  • A tale of two halves: Breds fall...

    By Mike Aldridge

The Harrison County Thorobreds dug themselves a hole Friday night in their battle for a home game in the upcoming playoffs.

  • Tailgating on the Hilltop, let...

Some friends of mine go to Commonwealth Stadium at 10 a.m. for a 7:30 p.m. kick off and another friend and his lovely wife have a blue bus that goes up sometimes on Friday night for a Saturday game.

What in the world?!! You might say. There must be something going on besides football.

Absolutely not. It is football college style and they are going so early and buying a bus and painting it blue, redecorating with a sofa and recliners and other home-style objects so they will be ready to tailgate.

  • Playoff time and great memories

The playoffs are set and the eight teams left will decide this year’s championship.

I think that the American League is wide open with Tampa Bay maybe the slight favorite. The National League has the Phillies as a clear cut favorite but the Giants could come in to surprise.

It will be really interesting with the World Series favorite being from the American League unless the Phillies do win the National League.  Then the Phillies should be the favorite due to H2O, Halladay, Oswalt and Hammels, the pitching trio who could dominate any team.

  • Cross country runs well at GRC...

The return of junior Jacob Marsh sparked the fastest overall race for the Harrison County Thorobreds cross country team Saturday at the GRC Coaches Classic meet.

Marsh, who had been fighting an illness for nearly a month, was a medal winner finishing 15th in a time of 19:20 over the 5000M course.

Freshman Nathan Radford had his best race of the year (25th, 20:19) and Keenan Palmer and David Johnson also had strong races. Seventh grader Travis Fry was a surprise at the meet as he finished 67th in the varsity race in a time of 24:33.

  • Coach Simpson honored at GRC...

The 2010 GRC Coaches Classic honoree was Harrison County coach Danny Simpson Saturday during the Classic meet.

Simpson was honored for his 30 years of devotion to the runners of Harrison County High School in the track and cross country programs. Simpson was and is an innovator within the KHSAA community as he is largely responsible for the current three class system that is used today by the KHSAA.

Soccer teams travel to LCA for girl/boy doubleheader

The 10th rated Lexington Christian girls’ soccer team got past the Harrison County Fillies Tuesday night in the opening game of the girl/boy doubleheader at Lexington Christian.

The Lady Eagles (12-3-1) outscored the Fillies 3-0 despite a good defensive effort by the visiting team. The Senior Night festivities had the home girls focused on the task at hand and Harrison County just could not keep them out of the goal.

  • Fillies finish home schedule...

The Harrison County Fillies Volleyball team ended the regular season home schedule Tuesday night with a two set romp over neighboring Bourbon County.

The Fillies won 25-17 and 25-11 as they passed the ball very well during the contest.

“Our passing was better tonight so Allison (Cordray, the setter) could set up our hitters better,” noted Coach Bill Faulkner.  “Deidre and Madeline had some excellent slams tonight due to better sets. Overall, we reacted to the serve better.”
