  • Breds edge GRC to advance to...

    By Mike Aldridge, Sports writer

The Harrison County Thorobreds improved their record to 15-16 Thursday night as they got by the George Rogers Clark Cardinals, 53-50, in the quarterfinals of the 10th Region Tournament.

  • Is it time to line the court...

A couple of soccer notes before I get into my thought for the week.

Christian Carey signed to play for Northern Kentucky University of the Atlantic 10 last week.

It will be very challenging to play Division I soccer, but I am sure Christian is up to the task.

  • Carey signs with NKU

Harrison County High School senior Christian Carey signed to play soccer at Northern Kentucky University last week at a ceremony held in the HCHS cafeteria. With him are his parents Larry and Kristy Carey.

  • Thorobreds 38th District champs...

The Harrison County Thorobreds never trailed as they defeated the Robertson County Black Devils 60 to 46 in Friday’s championship game of the 38th District.
The game, played at Pendleton County before a good crowd, was the only meeting this year between the two schools.
Harrison County’s physical edge was something that the Robertson County team could not overcome. The Thorobreds took advantage of their size to dominate the boards for the night grabbing more rebounds in each quarter than their smaller opponent.

  • Grit not enough as Fillies fall...

BThe Harrison County Fillies laid it all on the line Thursday night but came up a little short. The Fillies lost a double overtime thriller to the Nicholas County Lady Jackets in the finals of the 38th District basketball tournament.
Harrison County played the game from the start without starting forward Taylor Reffett, who was out with concussion-like symptoms, and then lost shooting guard Chelsea Ingram with two seconds gone in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.
The medical report is not meant to take away from the game that was played.

  • Four Harrison Countians named to...

The 10th Region coaches for girls’ and boys’ basketball have named the slates for this year’s inductees to the Hall of Fame.
The honorees include two people from Harrison County in each of the classes, women’s and men’s.
The women named are Mary VanHook from the Oddville Kittens as a veteran’s inductee and Megan Gray-McIlvain from the 1999-2004 Harrison County Fillies.
VanHook played for the Oddville Kittens from 1926 through 1929.

  • Still some good things going on

Before I get into my article I want to apologize to Grant Carr and his family for omitting Grant in my article about the Collins game where I listed the seniors that started the game.  It should have read the five seniors that started Dillon Pulliam, Mason Ritchie, Landon Palmer, Grant Carr and long-time manager Russell Crosthwaite.
Sometimes I can blame my mistakes on the people working at the paper, but this time I’m afraid it was all me.

  • Cynthiana Gems-Sapphires doing...

The ages 6-11 Cynthiana Gems-Sapphires have competed in five competitions since July and have finished no less than second overall in the events.
The team participates in the Universal Cheerleaders Associ-ation and the National Cheerleaders Association.  They began in July in Nicholas County where they were first place winners in their Youth Level 1 division and Overall Grand Champions for All-Stars.
The following contest was a UCA tournament where they were selected first in the Youth Level 1 division.
