  • Fillies win first victory at...

Coach Kim Furnish said after Wednesday’s game that she had finally got the demon off her back.
Maybe it was a Lady Demon because Furnish and her Harrison County Fillies picked up their first win of the season over the Lady Demons of Williamstown, 70-56, Wednesday.
The win improved the Fillies to 1-6 and dropped the freshman-laden Lady Demons to 3-6 for the season.

  • Thorobreds split games in Stop...

The Harrison County Thorobreds played some of their better basketball of the young season as they lost a tight game on Friday to Covington Holmes and then won a cliff hanger on Saturday with Russell.
Friday saw the Breds lose to the host school, Holmes, 82-73, after a hard-fought game that saw Harrison County give one of the state’s top teams all they wanted for the contest.
The Breds took an early lead in the game and led late into the first period before Holmes went on an 11-point run to take a 16-10 lead to a 16-21 deficit.

  • Let’s have a Happy New Year and...

When the Fillies traveled to Williamstown last Wednesday and won their first game of the year, I was reminded of what a good home court advantage can do for a high school team.
While it is true that the Lady Demons lost this home game, what little crowd that was in attendance supporting them made its presence known.
When the Fillies went to the locker room for final instructions before the game, the Williamstown band practiced a 30-second song and a one minute ditty while the teams were in the locker room.

  • Score 'N' More
  • Fillies drop three more at...

The effort that the Harrison County Fillies put forth in Friday’s 56-52 loss to Covington Latin was all Coach Kim Furnish could stand.
“We came home and practiced for two hours and I found some girls who wanted to compete for us,” she noted. “I had to make some changes after Friday night’s effort.”
The Fillies started from the gate slowly in the 5 p.m. start in the first game of the Edwardo’s Classic at Pendleton County High School.

  • HCHS Breds
  • Breds totally dominate Flyers...

After a six-to-six tie early in the game, the Harrison County Thorobreds ran off a 17-to-four run on the way to a 95-52 rout of Franklin County Tuesday night in Cynthiana.
The Thorobreds’ depth and pressure defense was too much for the Flyers as the Breds led 23-10 at the end of the first period.
It only got worse for Franklin County as Harrison County outscored them to start the second period by a 13-to-five margin in the first four minutes of the stanza and by halftime the score doubled at 46-23.

  • Second half run boosts Dixie...

The Dixie Heights Lady Colonels picked up their second victory of the year Saturday night as they used an 18-2 run in the third and fourth periods to defeat the Harrison County Fillies 56-46.
The 0-6 Fillies took an eight-point halftime lead into the third period but were outscored 19-6 in that period to lose the lead and eventually the ball game.
The game was one of two entirely different halves except for one constant for the Fillies. That was one of committing too many fouls.
