  • Fillies stifle Calvary Christian...

The Harrison County Fillies’ defense shut down the Calvary Christian Lady Cougars Monday night in Covington with a 35-14 win to open the 2013-14 season.
The 14-point total was the second fewest allowed by a Fillies team; the fewest was an 11-point output by Deming in December 1997.
The victory avenged last year’s opening loss on the Hilltop.
Harrison County played without starting shooting guard Chelsea Ingram who was out with wisdom teeth issues.

  • Thorobreds lose tough opener at...

The Harrison County Thorobreds lost their opening game for the 2013-14 season Monday night in Buckner to the Oldham County Colonels 87-85 in overtime.
The visiting Thorobreds seemed to have the game in control early as they jumped out to a 20-10 lead behind juniors Trent Thompson and D.J. Jenkins before the Colonels rallied to cut the lead to 21-15 at the first stop.
The second quarter saw the Thorobreds continue to lead taking advantage of hot shooting from the field.

  • Bowlers sweep Rowan County

The Rowan County Vikings bowling team traveled from Morehead Monday night to Galactic Alley only to be swept by the Fillies and Thorobreds bowling teams.
Each of Harrison County’s teams won all seven points in their match to remain undefeated for the season.
Greg Dick was the leading bowler for Harrison County’s boys as he rolled 205 and 225 in his two games.

  • All along we thought it was Doug...

Wilson Palmer was a fixture at Biancke’s each weekday morning when Patti and I moved to Cynthiana in the middle 70’s. One of the characteristics of Wilson was that he always sat on the east end of the long table in the front and most of the time John Swinford sat to his immediate left.
They sat like that because, for one reason, they could see everyone who came into the restaurant and if they didn’t know them they could find out who they were and why they were in Cynthiana.
