Five HCMS wrestlers qualify for regional
Eighth grader Michael Mattox led four other Harrison County Middle School wrestlers into the region competition by taking first place in the middle school District 7 tournament Saturday.
Mattox took first in the 106 lb competition taking advantage of his varsity experience to bring home the first place medal.

George Rogers Clark owned an eight-game winning streak over the Harrison County Thorobreds until Tuesday night on the Hilltop.
If someone would have said that the Breds were going to hit 50 percent from the foul line, 30 percent from the three point arc and 36 percent from the field and win by 11, hardly anyone would have believed it.
That is just what happened Tuesday as the Breds, after a determined if not artistic start, bested the Cardinals in a game where the lid that was on the basket was rarely removed.

Coach Kim Furnish summed up the weekend with one comment on Saturday night.
“After the first quarter, we finally went out and took care of business,” the second-year Fillies mentor said.
This could have applied to the first 13 games of the year as the Fillies looked like they learned how to put a team away Saturday night after a season-to-date of leading and losing the lead.
Thursday night the Fillies played the 10-2 Lady Bears to a tough 53-46 loss after trailing by only one point going into the final eight minute stanza.

  • Some bits and pieces to start...

My column about the home court advantage possibilities has gotten several responses and much to my surprise all favorable.
Since the Fillies’ game at Williamstown they have encountered the same type of treatment on the road in at least one other gym.

The Harrison County Thorobreds improved to 10-5 for the year with a 58-53 home win Friday over Bracken County and a 96-58 smashing of Paris in the Bourbon County seat on Saturday night.
Coach Larry Kendall, while certainly happy to win, thought the Bracken County game could have been played much better by the Thorobreds.
