  • Fillies take second at Dink Scott

    The Harrison County Fillies volleyball team suffered from some post-tournament blues on Tuesday night and dropped a three-game match to visiting Lexington Christian Academy.

    LCA took the early lead in game one and never let up, demoralizing the Fillies 25-10. In the second game, Harrison County bounced back and won 25-17. In the third and deciding game, Harrison County took an early lead at 12-6. but hit the skids late, losing 25-20.

  • Fillies notch second win, down...

    Winning cures a lot of ills, and the Harrison County Fillies soccer team appears to be on the road to recovery.

    On Monday night at LeBus Field, the Fillies blew open a close game, scoring four times in the second half and totally dominating the action as they crushed Grant County 5-0.

  • High school sports report

    The Harrison County volleyball team overcame a slow start and came back to defeat visiting Powell County in two straight games, 25-23 and 25-12.

    The Fillies had a hard time getting the first side-out as Powell County served its way to a 7-0 lead, prompting a time-out by Harrison County coach Bill Faulkner.

  • Williams rushes past Breds

    Clark County running back Ryan Williams stole the show on Friday night as the visiting Cardinals rained on Harrison Countys home opener, blasting the Breds 44-0.

    Williams wasted no time in exerting his influence on the game by taking the handoff on the Cards first play from scrimmage and out-racing the entire Harrison County defense for a 90-yard TD run.

    A much-needed rain started falling about 45 minutes prior to the 7:30 kick-off ... much-needed by the community, but not by Harrison County head coach Aaron Stepp.

    Rev. Ross Park bike race is Saturday

    The 7th annual Rev. Ross Park Bike Race will be held this Saturday, Sept. 13, at the park. Several races will be held as part of the event with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. The first race will start at 10 a.m. Every participant will receive a free T-shirts, with race winners earning a new bike and helmet, and plaques awarded to all placement winners. There will also be several other fun activities held in conjunction with the races.

  • Breds take on Panthers Saturday

    The task of first-year Harrison County football coach Aaron Stepp gets a little tougher this week as his beaten and battered team takes to the field for the first time against a much-improved Fleming County Panther squad in the first game of the Recreation Bowl on Saturday in Mt. Sterling.

    Last year, these same two teams squared off in the Recreation Bowl, with Harrison County coming away with an easy 53-8 win.

    This year, look for a much different score.

  • Football not as fast-paced as it...

    Heres another example of you-cant-always-believe-what-you-see.

    On Tuesday night before the Breds soccer game with Grant County, I had a nice long visit with one of the referees for the contest, Alan Southerland.

    After seeking Alan out to pay him for his services that evening and introducing myself to him, it took about a nanosecond to realize that he was originally from somewhere other than Central Kentucky.

  • Fall sports update at HCHS

    The Harrison County High School volleyball team got back to its winning ways on Tuesday night hosting Madison Southern and coming away with an easy win 25-14 and 25-15.

    The freshman Fillies and JV Fillies also bested the Lady Eagles in their two preliminary contests.

    We played much better and are showing signs of improvement, said HCHS coach Bill Faulkner. We have a young team this year and will have our ups and downs, but are gaining valuable experience.

    Youth football signups now being taken

    The Harrison County youth football signups have been extended to Sept. 5. Anyone interested in playing should meet at the Harrison County football field by the concession stand nearest the Hilltop Restaurant to sign up from 5-7 p.m.

    Leagues include: Flag (first and second graders); Lower Youth League (third and fourth graders); and Upper Youth League (fifth and sixth graders).
