    Harrison County spotted Nicholas County an opening 4-0 lead before coming back to whip the Lady Jackets in four innings, 14-4, at Pendleton County Tuesday night.  
    Nicholas County had opened the district competition with a six-inning, 12-2 win over the host Lady Cats before running into the Harrison County buzz saw.  
    After Nicholas County had scored four times in the opening inning on two hits, a couple of walks, a hit batsman and a big Harrison County error, the Fillies scored one run in the bottom of the inning.

    Five young Harrison County pitchers combined to throw a no hitter and the Thorobreds put 16 runs on the board for an easy 16-0 win over Robertson County in the opener of the 38th District Monday night.  
    Sophomores Austin Reffett and Alex Kinsey, freshman Gus Garrison, lightly used junior Christian Persinger and eighth grader Nathan Fryman combined to strike out six and walk only one in the five-inning game.  
    The Breds’ batters had 13 hits, drew seven walks and had one batter hit by a pitch to put base runners on in each inning except the first.

    Louisville Central ran away with the girls’ team title and Lexington Catholic was the easy winner in the boys’ competition Friday at the AA State Track Championships.  
    The meet, which was moved up a week to accommodate the officials, featured some dominant athletes in both the girls’ and boys’ divisions.  
    Joey Faulconer was fourth in the 1600M run and Daniel Klapheke was eighth in the 110M hurdles to score six points for the Harrison County Thorobreds, who finished in 32nd place in the 44-team competition.

    Using replay in sports to verify a call is a hot subject with many pros and cons including what to do if a mistake is found.  
    The biggest issue in all sports that have replay is the time it takes to view the film and either verify or correct the call.  
    Hockey, believe it or not, has the best system and the fastest.  
    Hockey has an independent person or persons in a film room somewhere in Canada with all games being played on video screens around the room.

    The Harrison County Thorobreds’ bats came to life for a little while on Wednesday when they pounded out 11 hits in five innings to shut out Walton Verona (10-15) by a 10-0 score on the Hilltop.  
    Junior Zach Royce drove in four of the runs with a first inning sacrifice fly and a fourth inning  three-run home run to lead Harrison County who improved to 19-6 with the win.  
    Brandon Kendall, Jordan Martin and Noah Mitchell each had two hits for Harrison County.

  • Fillies on three games win...

    The Harrison County Fillies defeated George Rogers Clark Friday on Senior Night by a 5-4 score and won both ends of the triangle tournament on Saturday to head into district play on a three-game winning streak.  
    The 23-10 Harrison County squad edged Estill County (18-15) by a 7-6 score in the first game of the triangle and Western Hills (18-17) by a 2-1 score in the final game.  
    Western Hills beat a depleted Estill County squad in the second game as the Lady Engineers sent their seniors home for graduation.

    Fillies Basketball Camp
    set for May 29-31
    Coach Kim Furnish and the Harrison County Fillies will hold the summer basketball camp this year beginning on Wednesday, May 29. The camp will be for three days concluding on Friday, May 31.  
    Campers between grades 1-8 are welcome for the morning camp which begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 11:30 all three days.
