    HCMS basketball teams

     notch victories

    The Harrison County Middle School basketball teams notched victories over Paris and East Jessamine last week and both lost to Scott County Middle.

    On Wednesday, the eighth grade Colts blew open a close game in the second half and beat Paris Middle School 40-28. The Colts led by two at halftime and blitzed the Hounds by a 27-17 margin in the second stanza for the easy win.

  • Eagles Fly Past Breds

    Slowly but surely, the Harrison County Thorobreds basketball team is showing signs of progress. It might be in small increments, and it might not be happening as quickly as head coach Mike Reitz would like, but sooner or later, this team will come together and start winning some games.

    On Tuesday night in the Breds home opener, the visiting Scott High Eagles utilized full court and half court pressure to pull away in the second and third quarters to defeat the Breds 76-49.

  • Breds rout Dixie on the mat

    The Harrison County High School wrestling season got off to a good start last Wednesday with a convincing 51-21 win over host Dixie Heights in a dual match.

    Harrison County got off to a shaky start and trailed 21-0 after losing its first four matches of the meet, but didn’t lose another match on the way to a team victory.

    Harrison County captain Cody Ward righted the ship for Harrison County, pinning his opponent in 1:03 of the first round.

  • Ammerman to call state finals...

    For the second year in a row, and third time since 2000, a local high school football official has been given the honor of calling the last high school football game of the season.

    On Friday afternoon, Joseph Ammerman will be the line judge in the Class AAA State Championship Game between Louisville Central and Breathitt County. That game is set to kickoff at 3 p.m.

  • Grapplers open up on Saturday in...

    The Harrison County High School wrestling team gets its season underway this Saturday competing in the North Oldham Duals in Oldham County. Harrison County will compete against the hosts, along with four teams out of Louisville–Jeffersontown, Iroquois, Manual and Fairdale.

    Harrison County has 11 lettermen returning on its varsity roster, including six who participated in last year’s KHSAA State Championships in Frankfort.

  • Breds drop opener at Grant

    Long-range marksmanship by host Grant County doomed Harrison County on Tuesday night in the regular season opener for both boys varsity teams.

    Cody Kinman came off the bench for the Braves and torched the Thorobreds for five three-pointers as Grant County out-shot Harrison County from beyond the three-point arc 8-1, on their way to a 65-56 win.

    Breds and Fillies open hardwood

    campaigns next week

    The Harrison County Thorobreds and Fillies will both begin their respective basketball seasons next week.

    The Breds will open play on Tuesday night on the road as they go to Dry Ridge to take on Grant County. After traveling to Campbellsville to take on Larue County on Saturday, Harrison County returns to the Hilltop for its home opener on Dec. 9 when they square off against Covington Scott.

    HCHS Holiday Cheer Camp

    to begin Dec. 6

    Children in grades K thru 5 are invited to spread some holiday cheer with the Harrison County High School varsity cheerleaders at their HCHS Holiday Cheer Camp on Saturday, Dec. 6. The camp will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. Lunch and a tee shirt will be provided with family discounts available.

    Cost of the one-day camp will be $25 if registered in advance and $30 at the door. Campers will also be admitted free of charge, and will perform, during the Harrison County Thorobred varsity game on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

  • Early mistakes doom Thorobreds

    Harrison County Coach Aaron Stepp knew that his team would have to play a nearly perfect game in order to beat Lexington Catholic in the second round of the AAAA football playoffs last Friday night.

    He knew that his team would need to control the ball offensively, run time off the clock, score on nearly every possession and keep the potent Knights’ offense off the field.

    His team could not afford to turn the ball over and could not afford to give the Knights any help with penalties.
