    The Harrison County High School cross country teams traveled to Williamstown for the Williamstown Invitational on Saturday.

    On the boys’ side, all varsity and JV runners medaled as Harrison County ran against just the host, Williamstown.

  • Whalen finishes 14th in state

    It didn’t play out quite like she envisioned it, but the end result was just fine for Polly Whalen.

    Whalen, a junior golfer at Harrison County High School, finished her rain-shortened first round on Wednesday last week, had a quick lunch, then went right back on the course for another 18 holes of golf in the Leachman Pontiac-Buick-GMC/KHSAA Girls’ State Golf Tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club.

  • Runners compete at Dunbar...

    The Harrison County Thorobreds and Fillies cross country teams traveled to Masterson Station Park in Lexington on Saturday for the Dunbar Invitational. Both teams enjoyed the outstanding weather and followed up with top-notch finishes.

    The varsity boys had one of their best races of the year and placed sixth in a 10-team field.

  • Breds, Fillies prep for district...

    Both the Harrison County Thorobreds and Harrison County Fillies have one more regular season game on their respective schedules, with both 24th District Soccer Tournaments set to begin at Stonerside Field in Paris.

    Both teams are looking to try and snare some momentum heading into the post-season, and both teams will get a final chance to do that tonight.

  • Golf championship hampered by...

    Polly Whalen was only able to get in three holes in the first round of the Leachman Pontiac- Buick - GMC/KHSAA Girls’ State Golf Championship at the Bowling Green Country Club on Tuesday.

    Whalen, a junior at Harrison County High School, was scheduled to tee off at 1:15, CST, on Tuesday afternoon, but didn’t hit her opening tee shot until 5:15. At about 11 a.m. heavy rain, thunder and lightening forced suspension of play. By 3:30 p.m., the thunder and lightening had left the area, and the players were sent back on the course in a steady rain.

  • Mistakes doom Breds, LexCath...

    It was the classic case of moving from the penthouse to the outhouse for the Harrison County Thorobreds this past Friday night.

    Two weeks ago, after a slow start, the Breds enjoyed a big second quarter and romped past the Bourbon County Colonels, 49-14. All but the first two minutes of the second half was played with a running clock after Harrison County extended its initial lead to 45 points.

  • Fillies on uptick as District...

    The Harrison County Fillies are saving their best for last with the 38th District Volleyball Tournament looming on the horizon.

    Harrison County has been on a roll over the past three weeks, suffering only two losses since Sept. 13, both of them to highly regarded area teams. Their only losses in that time period have come to Lexington Catholic and Villa Madonna.

  • Fall Fling this weekend

    With just two weeks left in the volleyball regular season, the Harrison County Fillies are hosting a 12-team tournament this weekend at Harrison County High School and Harrison County Middle School.

    The Fall Fling will feature three four-team pools. Pool  No. 1 will feature host Harrison County, Prestonsburg, Bourbon County and Louisville Iroquois. Pool  No. 2 will consist of Villa Madonna, Pendleton County, Bracken County and Madison Southern. Pool  No. 3 will have Montgomery County, Fleming County, Clark County and Madison Central.

  • Breds blast Bourbon, 49-14

    Heading into last Friday’s district opener, Harrison County football coach Aaron Stepp was fearful of one thing. He was afraid that the bigger, stronger Bourbon County Colonels would control the game with their offensive line and strong running game.

    Those fears appeared to be warranted over the game’s first seven minutes.

  • High school sports

    On Saturday the Harrison County High School cross country teams traveled to the Scott High Classic in Northern Kentucky. Harrison County coach Danny Simpson was pleased with his team’s performance, but expects to see some improvement in the near future.

    “Our varsity boys placed ninth in the team competition.  They ran solid races, but overall there wasn’t the improvement we expected,” said Simpson.
