    Holiday cheer camp set

    Children in grades K thru 5 are invited to spread some holiday cheer with the Harrison County High School varsity cheerleaders at their HCHS Holiday Cheer Camp on Saturday, Dec. 6. The camp will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 3 p.m.  Lunch and a tee shirt will be provided with family discounts available.

    Cost of the one-day camp will be $25 if registered in advance and $30 at the door. Campers will also be admitted free of charge, and will perform, during the Harrison County Thorobred varsity game on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

  • Playoffs begin tomorrow on...

    The Harrison County High School football Thorobreds will be seeking a bit of revenge tomorrow night as the KHSAA football playoffs begin statewide.

    The Breds ended the regular season with a so-so 5-5 mark, but did manage to sweep all three of their district contests and won the regular season district championship with wins over Pendleton County, Bourbon County and Franklin County.

  • Puckett makes state with 5th...

    Senior cross country runner Ryan Puckett earned his fifth trip to the KHSAA State Cross Country Championship with a fifth place finish in the class AA regional meet held on Saturday at A.J. Jolly Park in Campbell County.

    Puckett and the other 63 men’s runners overcame the elements on a cold and windy day that were less than ideal for cross country running.

  • Breds, Fillies prepping for...

    Mike Reitz and Jason Crisp have a lot in common. Both hail from Floyd County; Reitz from tiny Martin and Crisp from Prestonsburg. Both attended the University of Kentucky. Both are now head coaches at Harrison County High School.

    The similarities between the two don’t end with their backgrounds. Both are facing similar situations as the head coaches of the Harrison County Thorobreds and Fillies, respectively.

  • Regional cross country meet this...

    The Harrison County High School Thorobreds and Fillies will compete in the Class AA, Region 4 cross country meet Saturday at A.J. Jolly Park in Campbell County. The varsity girls race is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m., with the varsity boys to follow at 11.

    Harrison County will compete against Bourbon County, Covington Catholic (boys), Franklin County, Highlands, Holmes, Lexington Catholic, Lloyd Memorial, Pendleton County and Western Hills.

    This year, Harrison County was moved from AAA, representing the largest schools in the state, to AA, the second largest.

    Cynthiana Merchants softball team

    participates in softball championship

    The first county-state championships in softball were held on Oct. 18 and 19 in Owensboro, Ky. Forty counties were represented.

    The Cynthiana Merchants, coached by Gary Sipe, represented Harrison County. The team finished second to Bullitt County.

    Team members were: Bruce Nix, Kylie Vaughn, Doug Martin, Greg Martin, Chris Reffett, Daniel White, Scotty Mattox, Shannon Cook, Dallas Martin, Vince Harris, Kyle Hatterick, D. J. Lemons, and Daryl Fryman.

    Elks Soccer Shoot contest winners

    The Cynthiana Elks Lodge recently sponsored the local area Soccer Shoot Contest held at the Lodge Recreation Field. The contest was open for both boy and girls, with age divisions, under 8, 10, 12 and 14. All kickers received a Certificate of Participation and trophies were presented to the first and second place finishers.

  • Puckett takes third in HCI

    Senior cross country runner Ryan Puckett led the way for the Harrison County Thorobreds in the lone home cross country meet this season held last Thursday at the Cynthiana Country Club.

    Puckett was in the top two, and pushing the lead, for the first half of the 5K boys varsity race. He finished in third place overall as Walton Verona’s Wes McIntire won the event with 80 runners participating.

  • Volleyball ends with successful...

    The Harrison County Fillies volleyball team saw its highly successful 2008 season come to an end on Tuesday night after being eliminated from post-season play by 16th ranked Campbell County in the semi-final round of the 10th Region Tournament in Mt. Sterling.

    The Fillies fell behind early in the first game of the best-of-three series, 14-6, but mounted a comeback, before eventually losing 25-21. In the second game, the Camels flexed their collective muscles and dominated the Fillies, winning 25-8.
