  • Volleyball ends with successful...

    The Harrison County Fillies volleyball team saw its highly successful 2008 season come to an end on Tuesday night after being eliminated from post-season play by 16th ranked Campbell County in the semi-final round of the 10th Region Tournament in Mt. Sterling.

    The Fillies fell behind early in the first game of the best-of-three series, 14-6, but mounted a comeback, before eventually losing 25-21. In the second game, the Camels flexed their collective muscles and dominated the Fillies, winning 25-8.

  • Breds take district title in OT...

    Prior to last Friday night, the Harrison County Thorobreds football team had never won an overtime contest. They had lost all four OT games they had been involved in, dating back to 1981.

    They are now 1-4 in games that were not decided in regulation time.

    On Friday night, the Harrison County defense came up big, time and again, and a Van Isaac 10-yard touchdown scamper sealed the win on the Breds first offensive play in OT to secure the Breds first district football title since 2001, beating visiting Franklin County, 13-7.

  • “Sportsman’s...

    Ducks Unlimited is branching out … at least in Harrison County.

    The national organization that is committed to preserving and protecting wetland areas that are the natural habitat for waterfowl, is spreading its wings and trying to appeal to all outdoorsmen.

    This Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Cynthiana Country Club, the Harrison County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited is beginning a pioneering effort in Kentucky by attempting to bring together all local outdoorsmen for a “Sportsman’s Night Out.”

  • District championship on the...

    Without question, the biggest game of the current football season will take place tomorrow night when Harrison County’s biggest rival, the Franklin County Flyers, land at Ingles Stadium to take on the homestanding Thorobreds with the district championship on the line.

    The two teams are virtual mirror-images of each other. Both are 4-4 overall and 2-0 in district play. Both are prolific passing teams with veteran quarterbacks leading the way. Both have had explosive offensive games in wins, but both have seen their offense go south in most of their losses.

  • HCHS Fillies advance to district...

    The Harrison County Fillies volleyball team got the toughest draw possible in the 38th District Tournament, but have met the first two challenges and earned a guaranteed spot in next week’s 10th Region Tournament.

    Fillies coach Bill Faulkner recognized how difficult the draw was, but also realized that facing the three toughest teams in the 38th District would serve his team well down the road.

    Sportsmens night out is Nov. 1

    A sportsmens night out will be held Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Cynthiana Country Club. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Advance ticket sales only, $25. There will be no tickets sold at the door. Wear an orange or camo shirt and receive a chance on a new gun.

  • Runners host invitational at CCC...

    Hopefully, the third year is the charm for the Harrison County High School cross country teams.

    Each of the two previous seasons, their annual Harrison County Invitational Cross Country Meet, at the Cynthiana Country Club has been postponed due to rain.

    This afternoon, with rain again in the forecast, Harrison County is going to give it a go once more, again at the CCC.

  • Rockets shut down Breds, 17-0

    The Harrison County Thorobreds found out first hand exactly how hard a rock is on Friday night in Mt. Vernon.

    In a non-district football match up, the homestanding Rockcastle County Rockets shut down the Harrison County offense, found just enough offense of its own, and defeated the Breds, 17-0.

  • Balanced attack leads Breds past...

    When Aaron Stepp took the reins of the Harrison County Thorobreds football program, his reputation preceded him. He had developed one of the most prolific passing attacks in the state while at Clay County.

    Harrison County fans thought they would see the day arrive when footballs filled the air on Friday night and the new scoreboard at Ingles Stadium would be more than broken in.

  • Soccer seasons end for Breds and...

    Neither the Harrison County Fillies nor Thorobreds will advance to the 10th Region Tournament next week, as both were eliminated in the semifinals of the 24th District Tournament at Stonerside Field earlier this week in Paris.

    The Thorobreds were knocked out of the post-season on Monday night as they were defeated by top-seeded Montgomery County 1-0.
