  • Fillies open volleyball with...

Coach Bill Faulkner’s Harrison County Fillies volleyball team won three straight sets to open the 2013 season with a victory over St. Patrick on the Hilltop Monday night.

The Fillies won hard-fought matches each time as the Saints from Maysville battled them tooth and nail.

  • Time is precious, so take...

The Harrison County football team held its annual Maroon/White game Friday night and there was a decent crowd for the game.
Thursday night the boys’ soccer team held its game with the alumni team and the volleyball squad scrimmaged Bourbon County and the crowds for these were okay but could have been better.
In fact, they all could have been better.
This leads me to the title of this week’s article and how it relates to sports.

  • Thorobreds sharp in Maroon/White...

The Harrison County football team took to the field Friday night in Ingles Stadium with a stronger and quicker team that began the year in 2012.
It was apparent from the beginning of the scrimmage that the offense on both the Maroon and White teams was gifted with several talented skill players and some good line play.
Quarterbacks Robbie Stroub and Brock Jenkins took advantage of the speed that both their running backs and wide receivers were blessed with to strike early and often against the still-in-the-learning-stages defenses facing them.

  • Football Alumni Association...

There were many kind words and fond memories exchanged Saturday evening as the Harrison County Football Alumni Association inducted the class of 2013 in ceremonies held at the high school cafeteria. It was 1962 Cynthiana Bulldog Danny Kearns and 2001 Harrison County Thorobreds Glenn Scott and Billy Faulkner who were added to the 57 members already inducted to make an even 60 in the Football Hall of Fame.

  • Golfers play 5 matches last week

The Harrison County Thorobreds and Fillies golfers are easily the busiest teams at the high school starting the season.
Before school is even in session the golfers have nine matches under their belt with a full slate the rest of this week.
The Fillies played at Clark County last Monday finishing eighth in a tournament that had some of the areas top teams.
Scott County was the winner with a team total of 342.  Sarah Holland led the Fillies with a score of 106 on the tough Winchester Country Club course.
