  • Burley Belles this weekend at CCC

Fifteen-time winner Anne Combs returns to the Cynthiana Country Club Friday to defend her Burley Belles championship of 2011.
Combs, who plays out of the Spring Valley Country Club, is one of four multiple winners who will again vie for the crown in the championship division.
Cynthia Powell (Andover Country Club), Marsha Bordas (Lone Oak Golf Club) and Laurie Goodlett (Tates Creek Country Club) will also be in Cynthiana to try to unseat the unflappable Combs.

  • Cynthiana-Harrison County...

Since the formation of the Cynthiana-Harrison County Baseball Alumni Association in September 2011, much has been accomplished, yet its leaders want to do so much more.
The association is the brainchild of 1966 Harrison County graduates Larry Gossett, Jim Fuller and Ron England, and was formed to support and recognize baseball players in Harrison County.

  • Yankees roll past Braves in T-...

Terry Smiley’s undefeated Yankees extended their record to 20-0 Wednesday night as they defeated the Braves of Coach Billy Roberts, 22-9, in T-ball tournament action.
The Yankees advance to face the Reds who defeated the Blue Jays, 19-12, in the other semi final game.
The Yankees scored the maximum six runs in each of the first three innings to jump out to an 18-5 lead after three making it impossible for the Reds to come back within the one hour time limit.

  • A day at the racetrack or he’s...

Some people are the master of the obvious and while I don’t believe I am one of them, this statement is obvious.  Gosh is it hot!!
I spent Thursday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky., working as an usher. I was part of the six-person crew that was there to raise funds for the Harrison County Football program.
Each group who worked could have as many as 15 members, but the boosters could only muster six on Thursday and fewer numbers on Friday and Saturday.

They faced the second seeded Kentucky Fried Chicken team with their lineup loaded with 11-year-olds in the final on Thursday night at River Road Park.
