  • Fillies defeat Brossart

    The Harrison County Fillies basketball team salvaged an otherwise forgettable tournament at the Boone County Northern Exposure Tournament by nipping 10th Region foe Bishop Brossart in the seventh place game on Monday afternoon, 46-44.

    Senior guard Charley Hatfield split a double team and connected on a six footer with three seconds to play to break the tie and secure the win for Harrison County.

  • Breds take third in Twin Lakes...

    Coach Mike Reitz has the Harrison County Thorobreds on something of a mini-roll through Christmas time.

    Harrison County stood at 1-3 heading into a regular season game last Thursday at Bourbon County. Now, less than a week later, those same Thorobreds are 5-4, including a third place finish in the eight-team Twin Lakes Invitational Tournament at Clinton County High School.

    On Thursday night, Harrison County traveled to Paris and took on home standing Bourbon County. Harrison County took the early lead and never looked back, winning in a rout 66-45.

  • Bowlers sweep past Bourbon

    In their last match before Christmas, the Harrison County Bowling Teams routed visiting Bourbon County at Galactic Alley on Dec. 14 in both boys and girls action.

    The Thorobreds won all seven points in defeating the Colonels. They won the four team games 650-388, 601-508, 594-345 and 589-517 and swept the two Baker games 181-171 and 180-150. Harrison County won the overall pin count 2795-2079.

  • Harrison grapplers take first in...

    The Harrison County High School wrestling team showed marked improvement last weekend and went 4-1 overall in the Nelson County Duals on Saturday, tying for the best mark of the day in the six-team tournament.

    An upbeat Russ Riegel liked what he saw on Saturday, especially from his inexperienced charges.

  • Busy schedules planned for Breds...

    The Harrison County High School basketball Thorobreds and Fillies will have plenty of opportunities to improve over the next few weeks of 2008.

    The Breds earned their first victory of the season last Friday night as they got off to a blazing start and knocked off homestanding Nicholas County, 76-47.

    Senior forward Ryan Puckett hit three first quarter three-pointers to get the Breds out of the starting gate quickly and led Harrison County with a career-high 24 points. The win improved the Breds’ record to 1-3.

    Faulkner returns to hardwood

    for APSU

    2006 HCHS graduate Brooke Faulkner has returned to the basketball court after sitting out a transfer year and has played well in her two games at Austin Peay State University. She was cleared to play last week and has played in two of APSU’s games.

    Faulkner transferred to APSU after playing one year at Western Kentucky University. She will have three years of varsity eligibility remaining for the Governors after being granted an injury red shirt year by the NCAA.

  • Colonels Beat Fillies, 50-44

    A dismal first quarter offensive showing proved to be the undoing of the Harrison County Fillies on Monday night in Paris. Homestanding Bourbon County took advantage of ice cold shooting by the Fillies and mounted a 9-2 lead after the first eight minutes of play.

    It didn’t get much better for the Fillies in the second quarter and they trailed going to the locker room, 19-11.

    HCMS basketball teams

     notch victories

    The Harrison County Middle School basketball teams notched victories over Paris and East Jessamine last week and both lost to Scott County Middle.

    On Wednesday, the eighth grade Colts blew open a close game in the second half and beat Paris Middle School 40-28. The Colts led by two at halftime and blitzed the Hounds by a 27-17 margin in the second stanza for the easy win.

  • Eagles Fly Past Breds

    Slowly but surely, the Harrison County Thorobreds basketball team is showing signs of progress. It might be in small increments, and it might not be happening as quickly as head coach Mike Reitz would like, but sooner or later, this team will come together and start winning some games.

    On Tuesday night in the Breds home opener, the visiting Scott High Eagles utilized full court and half court pressure to pull away in the second and third quarters to defeat the Breds 76-49.

  • Breds rout Dixie on the mat

    The Harrison County High School wrestling season got off to a good start last Wednesday with a convincing 51-21 win over host Dixie Heights in a dual match.

    Harrison County got off to a shaky start and trailed 21-0 after losing its first four matches of the meet, but didn’t lose another match on the way to a team victory.

    Harrison County captain Cody Ward righted the ship for Harrison County, pinning his opponent in 1:03 of the first round.
