  • Thorobreds in championship of...

    The Harrison County Thorobreds came back from a 13-day lay off and played their way into the championship game of the North American Stainless/Carroll County Tourism Basketball Classic with two victories.  
    The Breds took the floor Monday against the 4-1 Barbourville Tigers in the second game of the first round.  
    Harrison County showed definite signs of rust as the team turned the ball over frequently beginning the game. Early in the second quarter they found themselves behind 26-13.

  • HCMS wrestlers off to fast start

    The Harrison County Middle School Wrestling team is off to a good start in the first half of the season.  
    After three consecutive weekends of travel the squad has come away with three top five finishes.
    Dec. 4 was a dual meet tournament at Woodford County with Boyle County, Anderson County, Conner and the home team, Woodford County. The meet opened with the Colts battling the perennial powerhouse Yellowjackets and falling in a tough match.

  • Christmas week brings back fond...

    I just saw a segment of 60 Minutes featuring people with memories that were so detailed they could remember everything that ever happened to them and at exactly what time it occurred.  
    I can remember many things that happened in my youth especially at Christmastime. Christmas in my family meant Christmas Eve with the Aldridge family. Since my dad was one of nine children, there could be anywhere between 50 to 80 people in a small house though we never noticed it being crowded.

  • Paris hands Fillies first loss...

    Harrison County jumped out to an 11-2 lead Wednesday night, but was unable to sustain the momentum and fell to the Paris Lady Hounds on the Hilltop.  
    Paris fought back in the quarter and cut the lead to 11-9 by the end of the quarter aided by foul trouble once again for freshman center Jordan Doram.  
    The six-footer picked up her second foul late in the first period and went to the bench for the remainder of the half.

  • Fillies improve to 3-0 with 49-...

    The Harrison County Fillies traveled as far south as they could and still be in Kentucky Saturday night to battle the McCreary Central Raiders in The McCreary Central Showcase.  
    The Fillies’ and Raiders’ battle was the third of the day.  The Fillies jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed as they defeated the home team 49-40 to improve to 3-0 for the young season.

  • Middle School teams split with...

    The eighth grade Harrison County Colts picked up their first Bluegrass Conference win Thursday night as they edged the West Jessamine Colts, 57-55, in a hard-fought contest.  
    The game was close throughout as West Jessamine led by four at the end of the first period and by one at the half time intermission.  
    The Harrison County team had an individual player get hot in each different quarter to lead the team.

  • Wrestlers lose tight match to...

    The Harrison County Thorobreds wrestling team came close to winning again, but fell short as they dropped a dual match to Henry Clay, 30-43, Tuesday night.  
    The night started out slowly as the weigh-in scheduled for 6 p.m. did not take place until nearly 7 p.m. as the Henry Clay wrestlers arrived individually and sporadically.  Once the weigh-in was out of the way, the match started with the 130 pound class.  
    In this match, eighth grader Noah Mitchell was pinned by Ayoub of Henry Clay with 3:29 gone in the match.

  • What I know, what I think

    Risking a copyright infringement with Mark Story I have opinions on some stories that have made the news lately.  I believe that Story will overlook this even if there is a similarity to some of the structure of his column.  
    Story’s father, Ray, was a friend of my late brother Jim when my brother was chairman of the Hardin County School Board.

    Bowlers split with Bourbon County Sunday
    The Harrison County bowling team split its matches with Bourbon County Sunday, but the girls’ team is coming closer to winning each week.  
    On Sunday, the Lady Colonels edged the Fillies bowlers by only a 3-4 score winning total points by only 172 pins. The Fillies took the second and fourth head-to-head matches and the first Baker’s game. They only lost the second Baker’s game by five pins or the total pins would not have mattered.

  • Reds Fest 2010-11

    On Friday night I traveled north to the Duke Energy Center to participate for the second time in Reds Fest.  
    Though it may be hard to believe, the Reds actually want Ray Sparks and me to be part of the show as we interview Reds players in front of a live audience.
    This year we started with Bronson Arroyo followed by Jay Bruce and Mike Leake.   
    One of the best parts of this experience is how truly nice these men are to us and to the fans that stand and listen to the interviews.
