    The Harrison County Thorobreds will continue their annual rite of spring next week by participating in another 10th Region Baseball tournament.

    This will mark the 29th straight year that the Breds have earned their way into the regional tournament by either winning or finishing as runner-up in district tournament play.

  • Netters conclude season at...

    The Harrison County Thorobreds and Fillies tennis teams had their respective seasons come to an end last weekend at the regional tournament at the Georgetown College Tennis Complex.

    Both teams had more than respectable finishes, though no entry made it into the semi-final round.

    “For the first time since I can remember, every one of our entries won their first-round matches and several won second round matches,” said co-coach Betsy Clyde.

  • Harrison County archers continue...

    Two years ago the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) added an invitation-only tournament to successful archers across North America. It is now the largest archery tournament in the world; attracting almost 5,000 students from across the United States and Canada.

    Harrison County is now turning some heads as they placed 8th in the middle school division out of 65 invited teams. Their elementary division (only 6th grade) placed 13th out of 58 teams. High school archers placed 37th out 84 teams.

  • American Red Cross swimming/...

    Screening and registration for classes will be held Wednesday, May 27 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Cynthiana Country Club pool. Bring a bathing suit and towel. Fees for each class will be $25 payable at registration. If after registering for a class, a student is unable to participate in that class the fee will be refunded.

  • Post-season to begin for HCHS...

    Spring sports at Harrison County High School are wrapping up with four different teams beginning their respective post-seasons this weekend and next week.

    * * * * * *

    The Harrison County Breds and Fillies track teams will compete Saturday in the Class AA, Region 4 Track Meet at Paul L. Dunbar High School in Lexington. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and is expected to last through mid-afternoon.

  • The streak ends, Fillies fall to...

    The fourth time was the charm for the Bourbon County Colonels on Tuesday night as they finally got over the hump and defeated visiting Harrison County, 8-4.

    The loss for the Fillies ends an impressive 21-game winning streak and dropped their record on the year to 27-4.

    Earlier in the year, Harrison County defeated Bourbon County three times, twice by close scores and once in a blow out.

  • Tracksters 2nd at Scott Co.

    The Harrison County track teams had only one meet last week. They ran at Scott County on Tuesday, but the Fleming County Invitational was rained out on Friday.

    Both the Breds and Fillies  placed second out of 11 teams at the Scott County All Comers. The boys (132 pts.) finished second to Scott County (199.5), but well ahead of third place Woodford County’s 69 points.

  • Breds edge Camels in extras

    The Harrison County Thorobreds earned what could be the kind of win that just may catapult them into another long post-season run on Tuesday night in Northern Kentucky.

    With less than one week until district tournament play begins, Harrison County scored twice in the top of the eighth inning and knocked off home-standing Campbell County, 7-5. It was the Breds second win in a row, in a string of difficult regular-season ending games.

  • Ducks Unlimited sportsmans night...

    The South Licking Ducks Unlimited will have a sportsmans night out on Saturday, May 16 at the Cynthiana Country Club. Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner served at 7 p.m. Single, $25; Greenwing (under 18), $15.

  • Tracksters prepping for regionals

    The Harrison County Thorobreds and Fillies track teams are on the last lap of the regular season with the regional track meet two weeks away.

    Both the Breds and Fillies competed at Dunbar High School in Lexington on Saturday in the Bearcat/Bulldog Invitational, with that regional meet as a primary impetus.
