  • Three inducted into Harrison...

Jimmy “Red” Fryman, Mark Jenkins and Jim McKee were inducted into the Harrison County Football Hall of Fame at the annual banquet Saturday in the high school cafeteria.
The evening began with short messages from both emcee Rick Chasteen and alumni president, Jim Furnish, concerning the beginning and the function of the Alumni Association. Furnish, Chasteen, Billy Hatfield and Ray Sparks are the officers of the organization.
The association, in its ninth year, has presented $8,000 in scholarships and awarded more on Saturday night.

  • Thorobreds attend Campbellsville...

The Harrison County Thorobreds football squad returned Monday from a long weekend camp held at Campbellsville University.
Forty-four upper classmen and four freshmen attended the camp which began at 8 p.m. Friday and wrapped up at noon on Monday.
The sessions were dictated by the weather somewhat as the Breds practiced at 6 and 10 a.m. and at 8 p.m. to avoid the heat as much as possible.
There were chalk sessions in the afternoons when it was too warm to work outdoors.

  • Fillies soccer
  • Volleyball Fillies district...

    By Mike Aldridge, Sports writer
The Harrison County Fillies volleyball program is in its 12th year compared to the northern part of the region where they are in their 45th or so year.
Nevertheless, the improvement continues with Coach Bill Faulkner’s squad as last year they were 25-12 with a district championship and a semi-final berth against Ft. Thomas Highlands.
The challenge for this year’s version of the Fillies volleyball girls is to continue the progress despite losing three starters from last year.

  • Cheerleaders at a baseball game...

I really appreciate the Harrison County cheerleaders and all of the hard work that they put into what is almost always a successful season.
I admire DeDe Shirley not only because she puts up with Greg but because of all of the hard work that she put into the cheerleading program while she was the guru.
I know that the coaches before her, Barb Snopek, Debbie Schmidt, Cathy Slucher, Jenny Nichols and all of the others did a great job of putting HCHS on the cheerleading map.
