The bus ride home from Walton-Verona on Tuesday night was a happy one for the Harrison County Thorobreds soccer team.

After playing several quality teams close, but still falling short, the Breds notched their first victory of the season on Tuesday night, coming from behind to defeat Walton-Verona, 2-1.

The Bearcats scored the lone goal in the first half to take a 1-0 lead to intermission.

Ten minutes into the second half, Jonathan Noble scored a goal to knot the score, then 5 minutes later Kaleb Mattox gave the Breds the lead.

The Harrison County cross country teams had one meet last week, an all comers meet at Frankfort on Wednesday.  It was a small meet, with only one other varsity team, but it was an opportunity for the Breds and Fillies to run on the regional meet course.

Since losing to Scott County in the finals of the Scott County Invitational last weekend, the Harrison County Fillies soccer team has been gathering momentum, heading down the stretch of the regular season.

Last Wednesday, the Fillies notched their biggest win of the season as they dumped perennial regional contender Clark County at LeBus Field, 4-1.

Harrison County never trailed in the contest and allowed only a penalty kick goal to the Lady Cards that spoiled the shutout.

Young plays for WKU against Vols

Former Harrison County offensive and defensive lineman Chris “Buba” Young saw his first varsity football action last weekend on a big stage. Young has earned the starting nod for Western Kentucky University’s Hilltoppers as the team’s long-snapper. Young, a red-shirt freshman, played for the Toppers in their 63-7 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.
