  • Fillies Volleyball routs...

    With an easy win over Nicholas County on Tuesday night at home, the Harrison County Fillies volleyball team saw its season record improve to 7-3, just one week into the 2009 regular season.

    “We have played a lot of volleyball in a very short period of time, and most of it against good quality competition,” said HCHS head coach Bill Faulkner after his team routed Nicholas County 25-4 and 25-10. “Tonight, we just overpowered Nicholas County, and that is probably because of the good competition we have played so far.”

  • HCHS Golf team results

    The Harrison County High School boys’ golf team finished eighth with 14 teams participating in the Powell County Invitational at Beech Fork Country Club on Saturday.

    Clay County won the tournament with a team score of 311, with Bath County finishing second with a 312.

    Harrison County’s team score of 338 was only four shots out of fourth place.

  • Soccer teams ready for season to...

    With their pre-season paces nearly completed, both the Harrison County Thorobreds and Fillies will open their soccer regular seasons next week. On Monday, the Fillies will host St. Patrick in a varsity-only contest at LeBus Field at 6, and the Thorobreds take on Dixie Heights on Tuesday, also at home, with the varsity game set to begin at 7:30.

    The Fillies got in only one pre-season scrimmage and lost that one to Tates Creek on Monday, 2-0.

    In spite of the loss, Fillies coach Kim Jenkins liked much of what she saw from her squad on Monday.

  • Scrimmage Success

    First-year Harrison County football coach Mark Carroll liked what he saw on Friday night as the Maroon Team and White Team battled to a 28-28 tie in the Maroon/White Game at Ingles Stadium.

    “I’d say we are about where we should be at this time of year,” said Carroll on Tuesday night. “A lot of guys saw action, it was exciting football to watch and there was a great crowd on hand for a scrimmage.”

  • Fillies win opener over Fleming

    The Harrison County Fillies volleyball team got their 2009 season off to a good start on Tuesday night as they defeated visiting Fleming County in two of three varsity games on the Hilltop.

    Harrison County came out of the gate fast in the first game, leading 18-4 before winning the first game 25-11.

    “We played exceptionally well in that first game,” said Fillies coach Bill Faulkner after the game. “The girls were focused, they played well at the net, served well, returned serve well…it was fun to watch.”

  • Whalen wins Rowan County...

    Senior Polly Whalen notched her first career medalist title last week in the Rowan County Invitational Golf Tournament at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead with 45 individuals competing.

    Whalen carded an eighteen hole total of 78 to win individual honors by one stroke over Franklin County’s Abby Smith.

  • HCHS offers season tickets with...

    Season ticket prices and game admission prices will remain unchanged for the 2009-10 school year, with one additional option available.

    At the new stadium, there are 300 chair back seats in the middle section of the bleachers. Those seats will be offered as reserved seats for $50 per seat. If a family ,or group, purchases at least four seats, they will also receive a parking pass that will get them a reserved parking spot close to the stadium.

    Football Alumni banquet is Aug. 8

    The 2009 inductees into the Harrison County Football Alumni Association’s Hall of Fame will be feted on Aug. 8 at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet that will be held at the Harrison County High School cafeteria. A reception in honor of the 2009 inductees will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the banquet at 5.

  • Volleyball to open at home on...

    The Harrison County Fillies volleyball team will open its regular season Tuesday at home against Fleming County with all three HCHS teams playing.

    The freshmen will begin play at about 5:30, followed by the junior varsity match, followed by the varsity match, at about 7.

    The Fillies should be primed and ready for the regular season after hosting scrimmages against Williamstown and Bourbon County and also competing in the Bluegrass State Games last weekend.
