  • Harrison County girls forge...

    The Harrison County cross country teams had one meet last week, an all comers meet at Frankfort on Wednesday.  It was a small meet, with only one other varsity team, but it was an opportunity for the Breds and Fillies to run on the regional meet course.

  • Breds outlast Newport, 20-14

    Anytime you can go into the lion’s den of Northern Kentucky football and come home with a win, a notch can be placed on your belt.

    Coach Mark Carroll and his Harrison County High School football team can break out the leather tools and start notching, after the Thorobreds overcame turnovers and turned back home-standing Newport on Friday night 20-14.

  • On a roll

    Since losing to Scott County in the finals of the Scott County Invitational last weekend, the Harrison County Fillies soccer team has been gathering momentum, heading down the stretch of the regular season.

    Last Wednesday, the Fillies notched their biggest win of the season as they dumped perennial regional contender Clark County at LeBus Field, 4-1.

    Harrison County never trailed in the contest and allowed only a penalty kick goal to the Lady Cards that spoiled the shutout.

  • Whalen second at Grant Co....

    Harrison County senior golfer Polly Whalen appears to have her game rounding into form at just the right time.  With the regional tournament just three weeks away, Whalen had another solid finish last weekend in a one-day tournament.

    Whalen carded a 78 on Saturday at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Crittenden, good enough for a second place finish in the 65-player field in the Grant County Classic.

    Young plays for WKU against Vols

    Former Harrison County offensive and defensive lineman Chris “Buba” Young saw his first varsity football action last weekend on a big stage. Young has earned the starting nod for Western Kentucky University’s Hilltoppers as the team’s long-snapper. Young, a red-shirt freshman, played for the Toppers in their 63-7 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.

  • HCHS runners improve at AJ...

    The Harrison County cross country teams traveled to Asbury College for the AJ Special last Thursday, with both teams coming away with improved performances.

    “It was a big, tough invitational, but we ran very well,” said HCHS coach Danny Simpson. “I had challenged our athletes to improve their times from the Pendleton County Meet. They did that and more with most of our runners improving 2-3 minutes over their previous meet.”

    The Harrison County Fillies volleyball team overcame some spotty play and knocked off Madison Southern on Tuesday night in three games.

    The Fillies lost the first game in the best-of-three series 25-21, but bounced back to take the last two games, 25-16 and 28-26 and improved their season’s record to 10-5.

  • Fillies rout Mason County

    The Harrison County Fillies soccer team got outstanding performances from Kassy Barnett and Courtney Grannis and overwhelmed home-standing Mason County on Tuesday night, 8-0.

    The win was Harrison County’s third in a row and improved their season record to 4-1.

    Barnett scored a career-high four goals in the win and Grannis contributed with a school-record five assists.

  • Breds roll over Paris Greyhounds

    The opening of the brand new Harrison County Athletic Complex was a successful one on Friday night as the Harrison County Thorobreds outmanned visiting Paris, 35-14.

    A huge crowd saw the Breds run out to an early lead, overcome a second quarter turnover that led to a touchdown, and put the Greyhounds away by halftime.

  • Harrison County Hilltop news

    The fall cross country season got off and running last week with the Harrison County Thorobreds and Fillies competing in a pair of early season meets.

    Last Wednesday, the Breds finished third and the Fillies finished third in an all comers meet at the Archives of Frankfort. Then on Saturday, in a step up in competition, the Breds were sixth and the Fillies third in the Pendleton County Invitational.
