  • Two things I miss

Monday morning’s Herald Leader had an article about Spaulding’s Bakery, which reminded me about things that I enjoyed in my youth that I no longer see or get to indulge in in my latter years.
    I love donuts.
Spaulding’s may be the greatest, which is what I have been told, but Ken’s serves a mean donut as well. This is not particularly an endorsement of any one donut maker over another because I have never met a donut that I didn’t like.

The 15th annual Harrison County Football Alumni banquet was held Saturday in the Harrison County Field House.
HCHS Fillies basketball coach Kim Furnish and her Fillies along with her sister, Mary Heimlich and others, had the Field House looking like a banquet hall.
After Reverend Kenneth Newby blessed the food each person marched through the food line and filled their plates with a nice meal.  Drinks and desserts were served by the Fillies basketball team.

Coach Kevin Gaunce’s 2017 Harrison County Fillies opened the pre-season with an impressive showing in Frankfort Saturday as they rolled past Lincoln County 10-2.
The Lady Patriots were never in the match as the Fillies scored nearly at will while using their mixture of experience and youth to keep constant pressure on Lincoln County.

  • Busy day Saturday

The Harrison County Football Alumni Association is holding its annual banquet this Saturday at the Harrison County High School Field House.
This begins at 4 p.m. with a shoot-the-breeze session where more points are scored and tackles made than one might imagine with a meal and the induction ceremonies to follow.
