On Friday, July 29, the Harrison County boys’ golf team competed in the first tournament of the season and finished second in the 12-team contest.

The preseason scrimmages on Friday are not the only football going on this weekend. It may be the only contact football going on, but football story-telling will excel the next two days.

First on Friday, the preseason scrimmage begins the action starting at 6:30 p.m.  Play will take place on the game field in the Athletic Complex and the adjacent practice field.

  • Harrison Co. volleyball returns...

Coach Bill Faulkner’s Harrison County volleyball Fillies lost just three seniors from last year’s 28-11 team.  But what a loss!  Gone are Payton Hollar, Aubrey Coppage and Casey Wallace.

“This was three quarters of our passing and ball handling,” said Faulkner. “That will be our biggest hole to fill.”

  • Time for high hopes

Fall sports at Harrison County High School will be getting started in earnest in the next week and hopes are high for a good season for each sport.

Golf has already had several matches with the boys playing well at times and not so well others. The girls, with only four players, have also been inconsistent. However in their last outing they played very well.

The soccer Breds are looking to rebound from an up-and-down year that ended on a sour note with a district loss to Mason County.

Last Wednesday at the Maysville Country Club, Coach Jason Crisp was one unhappy coach.

“We got it handed to us by four regional teams,” he moaned. “We played awful. Enough said.”

  • Harrison County cross country...

The Harrison County cross country coach, Deanna Lunsford, knows that she graduated one runner from last year.  That was her daughter Tamara. What she doesn’t know for sure is exactly how many runners she will have this season.

Sign ups for cross country are being accepted through Aug. 22, so Lunsford expects more competitors to step up.
