  • Breds play Alumnus to shoot out...

The alumni team was probably the youngest team ever to participate in the annual Thorobreds vs. Alumni soccer match and they made things really difficult for the 2014 Harrison County Thorobreds.
The alumni, coached by Charles Honeycutt, was made up of Stephen McCauley, John McCauley, Jordan Gasser, Kyle Foster, Taylor Bolin, Ben Anness, Cody Honeycutt, Hank Whalen, Jordan Kellione, Matt Mastin, Josh Young, Anthony Shirley, Tyler Feeback, Brandon Watkins, Richard Crowdy, Jeffrey Faulkner, and Joey Faulkner.

  • Golfers have busy week, rained...

The Harrison County golf teams have been busy playing and dodging the rain during the past week.
Sarah Holland began play with a solo performance in the George Rogers Clark Invitational on Sunday, Aug. 3, where she shot an outstanding round of 84 to finish in a tie for ninth place in this large tournament.
On Monday, the Fillies played as a team in the CKC Tournament on the course at the Montgomery County Country Club.  The Fillies were seventh of the 10 teams playing shooting a 420 team score.

  • Fillies battle Cougars in...

The northern Kentucky schools are usually tough competition in soccer and the Conner Cougars were no exception Saturday when they faced the Harrison County Fillies.
The veteran Conner girls scored three goals before the Fillies could settle down. They won the scrimmage match 3-1 in the Pendleton County Soccerama.
The Cougars, who dressed seven seniors and seven juniors, attacked early and often in the first 25 minutes of the scrimmage before the Fillies showed some defensive organization and held them at bay.

  • Let’s let everyone play

It seems like each week I need to comment on something before I get into my topic and this week is no exception.
The University of Kentucky’s basketball scrimmages being played in the Bahamas has a real local flavor.
All six games will be officiated by Harrison County natives John Hampton, Brent Hampton and Bart Lenox.  The three began their “tough” assignment Sunday and will finish this Sunday.

Maroon-White game shows defense ahead of offense
Both the Maroon and White defenses proved to be the dominant force for their teams as the Maroon-White scrimmage managed only one score during the semi-live scrimmage Friday night on Lawson Field.
The Ingles Stadium controlled battle was a demonstration of the fact that defense usually is ahead of offense in the early part of the season.
Coach Jim Carr said he was disappointed at first as the scrimmage went on, but after viewing the film he felt better about the effort.
